Buy on AliExpress, Donate to Africa Famine Relief

Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya.  These countries form what is known as the “Horn of Africa” and they are, year after year, hit with seasons of extreme drought.  Starvation in Africa seems to be a common global theme.  Yet, this is still the worst drought the people of these countries have faced in 60 years.  As a result, the UN estimates that 12.4 Million people are at risk of starvation.  In context, that’s roughly the number of households in the state of Pennsylvania.  People are traveling days on foot to find food.  Many refugees have entered bordering countries which cause further tension.

Unfortunately, in these tragic circumstances, children tend to bear the brunt of the famine.

  • Over 2.3 million children are estimated to be malnourished across the region
  • Over half a million severely malnourished children are at imminent risk of death
  • In parts of Southern Somalia children under 5 are dying at a rate of 15 per 10,000 per day
  • 1.4 million children in southern Somalia alone are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance

For many reasons, aid to these countries have been slow.  In order to raise awareness and donations, Vendio’s parent company, Alibaba.com, is pledging $1 per completed transaction on AliExpress. This is in additional to the 1 Million RMB donation announced by Alibaba Group.  This offer lasts through the end of August.
