41 Business Blogging Tips

Blogging is so important for business – and whether you’re doing it or not, here are some bite-sized tips you can use to make sure you’re on the right track with your business blog. Enjoy!

  1. Blog regularly, but choose being interesting over being regular.
  2. If you want to create blog content that is readily shared, try humor, lists (like this one) or creating controversy.
  3. Make sure you have social media sharing buttons on all your blog posts, so your readers can easily share your content.
  4. If you want more blog comments, ask your readers for their opinion on the subject. (what do you think? good idea or what?)
  5. Encourage community on your blog by responding to comments and interacting with your readers.
  6. Include subscribe buttons on your blog so readers can sign up for updates via their chosen media.
  7. Grow your community amongst bloggers in your niche. Offer to write a guest post and get more exposure at the same time.
  8. Start building a relationship with other bloggers by making meaningful comments on their blogs.
  9. Consider blogging as your social media hub. Share your posts, drive social traffic and more.
  10. So many blog platforms, so little time. Check out WordPress, Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad and Xanga. WordPress is what I recommend BY FAR.
  11. Always reads the terms of service before choosing a blogging platform. Some don’t allow commercial blogs.
  12. If you just want to do some casual blogging and get paid for it, take a look at blogit.com.
  13. Everyone always asks how often they should blog, but there is no right or wrong answer. Find your own schedule.
  14. If you don’t know what to blog about, turn the tables. Ask your readers a question and let them create the content.
  15. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get a lot of blog comments. If you’ve got visitors and they’re signing up to your mailing list, you’re doing something right.
  16. Encourage more interaction on your blog. Allow people to disagree with you. Don’t allow abuse, but do allow opinions.
  17. If you want more subscribers to your blog, ask them directly. Remind them about your subscription options in every single post.
  18. Requiring registration to leave a comment certainly results in fewer comments on your blog.
  19. Have you claimed your blog on technorati.com? It could increase your exposure.
  20. Get more attention for your blog posts, through the use of curiosity-inducing headlines and thought-provoking images.
  21. Maximize your efforts on old blog posts that get traffic. Add advertising, product recommendations and more.
  22. Show your appreciation for other bloggers in your niche by creating Top 20 list of blogs to read.
  23. Install Google Analytics on your blog. These in-depth stats will help you grow your traffic and monetize your blog better.
  24. Submit a press release to your local media about something you’ve accomplished. It can bring more traffic to your blog.
  25. Get more action on your blog. Hold a sweepstakes or giveaway.
  26. Blogging is not essay writing. Unless you’re writing to PhD students, go casual.
  27. If you recently wrote a very popular blog post, make a Part 2 or expand on a certain part of the content. Your readers will love it.
  28. If your inspiration for a blog post comes from someone else’s blog post, link to that post and give them credit.
  29. Keyword research is important for your blog, but remember to write quality content for real humans.
  30. Foster your connections with other bloggers by sharing their content on Facebook, Twitter and more.
  31. Want a post that gets attention? Try making a Top 10 Predictions list relevant in your niche.
  32. Bust a common myth on your blog and use solid arguments to prove your point. That’ll get their attention!
  33. Tell everyday stories that are meaningful to your niche. Whether they’re lessons to learn or stories to evoke emotion, they can be very powerful.
  34. Start your post with a meaningful quote. You’ll have your reader thinking and engaged before they start reading the content.
  35. When guest posting, link to a free subscription offer so you can stay in contact with all those visitors long after they’re gone.
  36. Longer is not necessarily better when it comes to blog content. Write as much as you need to make your point but no more.
  37. Do your homework when blogging. Research products, facts and statistics to avoid a virtual foot in our mouth.
  38. Figure out what makes you different than other blogs in your niche and why your readers like it. Do more of that.
  39. Share stories from your readers on your blog. It creates community and is great content for your readers.
  40. Make it easy for your blog visitors to navigate your site. Categorize your content, date your archives and offer a search box.
  41. Include an About Me or About Us page on your blog. You never know what important connection wants to know more about you.
