Five Things an Entrepreneur Can Get Rid of NOW!

There are so many things we as eCommerce Entrepreneurs need to hang on to for various reasons. Tax returns, Corporate Filing Papers, Cost of Goods proof documents. Here are five things you can let go of now and give in to the end of year cleaning urge you are feeling now.

  1. Broken returns. Let’s face it, if you’ve been in eCommerce any length of time somewhere you have a pile of returns that are just ‘a little’ broken. And you plan on taking time to put them back in running order and reselling so you can recoup some of your investment. Trust me, if they’ve been sitting in that pile for more than 30 days the chances of you fixing and reselling them are remote. Set them free. Make a donation to your nearest charity thrift. Some of them will even come by and pick them up. Take that one more chore off your ‘waiting to do’ list and feel the freedom!
  2. Gadgets you are not using. Since we spend so much time on the Internet, we tend to own several little cutsie items that looked so wonderful on our favorite Deal of the Day sites. But once they arrived and we opened them and used them the first time we realized how impractical they are and have never used them again. Still they sit in their spot mocking us for the money and time we wasted. Cut them loose! You aren’t going to get that money or time back but you sure can get rid of the guilt you see every time you look at them. Donate or even through away but get them out of site.
  3. Schwag. Yes, this one hurts. I attend a lot of tradeshows and I just adore the little schwag stuff that follows me home. Hey, it’s FREE!  But in my last desk cleaning I realized I have 4 monitor cleaners, 18 notepads and uncountable ink pens. TOO MUCH! Charity thrift shop to the rescue again, and off they goes.
  4. Unread books and magazines. Yes, I know that your mentor suggested that book last year and you really INTEND to get around to reading it. But after 365+ days, the odds are against it. Either plug in a scheduled period in your day for reading or toss the reading material. In today’s Internet age, information you discover you need can usually be quite easily accessed in a short period of time. Don’t use your valuable shelf and desk space to keep a collection of dust catchers. Set them and yourself free.
  5. Computer programs you no longer use. Adding programs to your computer is so easy now that we frequently end up with much slower running PCs simply because we have so many programs running. Particularly our start-up menus. So take a few minutes and go through the programs on your PC and tidy-up. Be sure to use the uninstall program that came with the program OR go through the control panel to make sure you uninstall all pieces. Then check out your start menu and make sure it only contains what you WANT to come on every time you boot up your computer. Don’t know how? Google ‘start up menu’ and your operating system. Chances are you can even find a You Tube video to walk you through it.

Let’s make 2013 not only more profitable but simpler and easier also!
