Thanks for posting that - great article.

I guess I find it hard to believe that the BBB only has 30-40 complaints a month about PP. I would have thought it would be higher! But I suppose most people who have problems don't always bother to file a complaint with the BBB.

Interesting....

30 to 40 complaints a MONTH and Paypal says they are running 150,000 transactions per DAY and have almost 6 million customers...I don't see that as much of a problem.

How many of those accounts are abandoned ? I have an account, but haven't used it since September. I'll bet a lot of folks are in the same group.

No idea on the usage of the accounts, but their site is very active. PC Data Online put out its December numbers PayPal had over 7 million unique hits in December. They are one of the top 100 web sites in traffic.

How many people know where the Silicon Valley's Better Business Bureau ofice is in order to FILE a complaint? And what would the complain ratio be if they did?

www.bbbsilicon.org is the appropriate site, and http://63.67.52.28/gccomplaint.html is the online complaint form.

I am very impressed with PayPal these days. It all goes very smoothly, including deposits into my bank. This is in contrast to PayDirect, which also seems to work, but deposits take a long time.

I am not sure I'd be so contented with PayPal if I had to pay them fees, but I have found that plenty of people will pay me the non-credit card way, and with the $100 "allowance" I have leeway to OK a few customers a month to use a credit card. I'm still on my Personal account.

It is a lot easier than you think, just go to www.bbb.org click on "file a complaint" and file away.

Suppose you spend a year on ebay building up a sterling reputation of perfect ratings. Suppose you sold expensive items like digital cameras. Suppose on day without warning your account with a few thousand dollars in it was frozen because a liar claimed that he never received his item. Then after weeks of emailing and calling, you were finally told who made the complaint. You send in proof of delivery in the form of USPS delivery confirmation, which is specifically named in Paypal's TOU as acceptable proof, and PP tells you it isn't good because it doesn't have a signature. In the meantime, dozens of folks have paid you thousands of dollars that you can't touch and without that money you can't order the merchandise to ship and by the time you finally "win" this case, there are now a dozen new charge backs pending against you. Your excellent feedback now has a dozen negatives and your reputation is ruined. Would you say this is not much of a problem? After all, it only happens to about 40 folks a month, so I guess they should be understanding about their reputations being trashed and their livelihood destroyed because PP won't follow its own TOU. I happen to think it's too much to risk in order to save a few cents.

well...I too had never had a problem with Paypal (and steadfastly supported them here in AW) until on January 14th, an unknown person who apparently hacked through Paypal's "Security" attempted to charge 499.00 to my card TWICE within 2 minutes. The card only had a 300 dollar limit or I am sure that 499.00 would have been on its way to Russia, Indonesia or some other port o'call. Paypal's response? "Well, they didn't get your money, so what are you upset about?" Gee---just the fact that someone was able to hack my password (which NO ONE knows but me) and impersonate me to the point of charging fraudulent charges....just a little concern, wouldn't you say, is appropriate????

The BBB is now investigating and I got a call from Paypal Fraud yesterday which I'll be returning today.

I just had a horrible runaround with paypal. My seller wouldn't communicate and three weeks later I didn't have my widget. Paypal ignored my first two emails. Then starting sending me form emails telling me to take the steps I had already taken. Replying to them did no good, all replied emails were ignored. I've lost my faith in Paypal, my account is 0'd out, and I unverified myself. I haven't cancelled yet, but probably will as soon as I find a replacement service. I still have one email out there that is over three weeks old that they have not answered.
Not my name on ebay.

That page you made is very informative.

It has info on payment proccessing companies I had not yet heard of.

I had somewhat heard of moneyzap.....not enough to go look into it seriously.

Nothing in my entire inventory is over $25 so I wouldnt recomend to any of my customers to use bidpay. I would feel guilty making someones $12 item cost $19.50 $12 + $2.50 my shipping fee + $5 bid pay service fee.

If I sold expensive items and $5 wouldn't make much difference than I would recomend it for sure.

It looks pretty good now.
Thanks.

I haven't had a problem with Paypal that would justify filing a BBB complaint (yet...)

But if you have had a problem this would be a VERY good time to file a complaint. The BBB is usually very good about not allowing companies to "muscle" their way to a better rating (as Paypal appears to be attempting.) But they need to be made aware that the problems are MUCH larger than the compalint ratio might indicate.

Sure, Paypal is having growing pains, but that doesn't mean that they should be cut any slack. Business is business. If you are not prepared for your business' growth, then you have a MAJOR problem.

Anyway, here's a link to the San Jose Better Business Bureau if anyone is interested in filing a complaint:
