This one bothers me all the time and I thought I would ask what you guys have seen for sale on eBay that you thought HAD to be a joke or that you just couldn't believe someone would pay money for.

The one that keeps coming back to bother me is a pair of USED sneakers for sale that had like 30 bids on them and were up in the $50 range! There was even a picture of these old worn out beat up sneakers ON someones FEET without socks even!

That has to be the oddest thing I have seen on eBay so far. What about anyone else?

After doing this for the past 3 years, nothing much surprizes me anymore. But I did find the "name our baby" auction to be a bit odd!

That one was pretty recent. The couple was expecting a baby and offering the highest bidder the right to name it. The object was to turn the kid into a living ad for some company & the funds to be used for college education. Kinda like, "meet my son, Oscar Meyer" or something like that...I don't know if it ran for the full auction time, if it was pulled or if it got any bids...

BTW, I'm pretty sure what you saw (eg. the USED sneakers) was a fetish kinda sale. Searching the internet a while ago for a specific sneaker my son wanted, I ran into a whole bunch of "used" sneaker sites!...Not my bag, but hey whatever turns 'em on!

Dryer Lint-no bids

I'm sure if it had been Demi Moore's dryer lint, it would have gotten bids.

(Anyone having seen "Striptease" will understand this one).

I sold my mom's old contact lenses for $80.00. When they first came out, they were the entire size of her eye balls! I just knew someone out there would want them but was really surprised to see a half a dozen bids on them. Makes you wish you never threw
anything out.

There was a seller I came across a while back who took wine corks , drew on them with a magic marker and stuck pins in them to make figures
He wrote some really great descreptions and had a bizarre about me page

He was getting double digit bids

Unfortunatley I lost his user id and have not been able to find his auctions.

spock here......

I tried to sell some contact lenses (NIB) on Ebay about two months ago. They were new, but my Dr had just changed the strength of my Rx. Anywho, it was promptly cancelled by Ebay for being against the rules.

Doormat, be glad that you got your auction to run all the way through. I saw similar auctions for very old contacts and fashion contacts run with no problem.

I sold a old electrolux vacuum cleaner that was left in our house when we bought it. The vacuum was from the 1950's and worked perfectly. With all the bids on it I wondered if it was a collector's item to some. I got about $60.00 for it and the buyer gave us a rave review feedback and packing. From then on I was hooked as a seller!

I was surprised to see people selling used shampoo and conditioner. These items did have at least one bid. Doesn't sound appealing to me.

daleeric,

It depends on what brand of bath product it was. Bath and Body Works frequently sells a certain fragrance of bath products and then will discontinue it. So, if you happen to fall in love with that particular scent, then the only way to get it is Ebay, even if the bottle is partly used up.

I know, it sounds a little silly to become so devoted to a single scent, but even practical, down-to-earth little me has fallen in love with Bath and Body Works very rare honeysuckle scent.

Searching the internet a while ago for a specific sneaker my son wanted, I ran into a whole bunch of "used" sneaker sites!...Not my bag, but hey whatever turns 'em on!

One a side note, Japanese Collectors and the Younger Generation buy up used clothing (Old, Discontinued Sneakers and the like) for $$$.

A while back, a guy setup shop in Hawaii for a week, asking for old sneakers, Jeans, and Jackets (For re-sale on the Japanese Market)and paying in both Cash and Travellers Checks. He doled out around $10,000 for a buncha clothing and shoes that would otherwise have been dumped or given to the Salvation Army.

Perhaps the bidding frenzy were due to a few Japanese Bidders after a certain model or line.

Of course, Womens Shoes with the "Scent" bring in higher prices...and don't ask how I know this.

Hi Cin!

Actually, I didn't sell them. The end result was near 3300 hits and two articles in weird auction online newspapers.

I printed out the auction page ... it will make a unique conversation piece when I finally get my downstairs bar done ...

LOL
