I have webtv & am trying to get a hotmail address, but when I do, I get a message that says:
Turn on cookies
or make sure your browser supports cookies.

I have no idea how to do that.

Does anyone with webtv have a hotmail address & can tell me how to do this & also how to turn on cookies or let me know how to find out if my browser supports cookies.

Thanks
Jane

If you got the hotmail address in order to log in to eBay because you couldn't log in with your WebTV service, and if you still have WebTV service, you might try this:
Add a new email address to your WebTV and then register at eBay under a new user name. That worked for me and I am able to access the whole system now. Unfortunately I've also had to kiss my positive feedback history going back about 4 years goodbye. Good luck.

Thanks marshabar , but I don't want the hotmail for ebay, I want it for email.
There is something about "cookies" that is preventing me from getting one.

Yes call Tech support at webtv, that is if you don't have to wait an hour or so and they will tell you what to do. Remember you can have 5 different email names with Webtv.

Get rid of WebTV. You can do far better with far fewer problems for far less money even with a third hand computer and a dial up modem.

Webtv always has cookies turned on. Once in a while there are technical difficulties with cookies where the site for whatever reason (webtv blames the site, the site blames webtv) doesn't recognize your cookies. Try again in a few minutes, and if it persists, try again in an hour. That always works for me. If the problem continues after that, it a site problem and you should contact their service department.

Hotmail is compatible with webtv so I'm sure you're experienceing a temporary glitch.

For those who criticsize webtv, I find it great. The problems I have aren't unlike the problems computer users have, and while there are several sites I can't access, computer users can't access all webtv only sites.

Quickdraw29-I am in agreement with you and webtv. I had it for 2 years but only a classic. I didn't have to worry about viruses, rebooting, tech support was good, but slow. And the price was really good. I had no complaints. I switched to a computer and I should have bought a webtv plus instead. The difference in price between a computer and webtv cannot be compared. I could sit on my couch or in the bed and surf the web. I loved my webtv and if this computer ever gets outdated I will go back. They have really good discussion boards. One is a ebay board. There are some weird people on their but there is also on the computer. I could be a spoksman for webtv. I really enjoyed it.

I have a book webtv for dummies and I don't think webtv has a browser. Everything is done back at webtv headquarters, or what ever you call it. Instead of a hotmail address go to Yahoo and get one.

Here is a quote from the book: Webtv is a perfect solution for people who don't care to spend irretrievable hours wrestling with stubborn software, finicky modems and rebellious program upgrades. More than a nifty product Webtv have a profound effect on the information age by unlocking the digital doors for nontechnical, practical folks who are interested in the internet but are understandably unwilling to invest huge amounts of time and money to acquire it.

You can also take your Webtv on vacation and if webtv has an account in that area just hook up, change the phone number and you are in business to send emails to your friends and relatives that you are safe.

Sorry this is so long.

WebTV is essentially Microsoft's answer to people who would otherwise probably just get an iMac. Since using an iMac takes nearly zero tech knowledge, the argument for WebTV is really absurd. This thread began with a tech problem--nothing in technology requires brain-free attendance. We are still nearly in Jurassic Park as far as technology goes--years ahead and seeking amusement, but you still have to use your brain if you want to survive.

I have Webtv and a Hotmail account. I have the plus and am able to reda my webtv email from anywhere using hotmail and their pop feature. It is great!

I also have both an imac and a pc and use all of them interchangeably. I even have an aol account. When one or the other goes down, I have backup. And the truth of the matter is the Webtv is the most reliable of the three.

I am in my easy chair, wireless keyboard in my lap, watching these words on a 45" screen.

Only those who have never had the pleasure of Webtv - now MSNtv - run it down. It is sort of a nerd sport.

Thank you all for your replies, you have been very helpful. I knew I would get some good answers if I posted my question here.

I have been away for the weekend & will now begin to work on solving my webtv "cookie" problem.

Jane
