Hello All,

I posted the following information, but I received the wrong facts.

Thank you very much for all the replies.

After speaking with my sister and reading the information posted on this board, she cleared up a few matters. My brother in-law was just "kidding" when it came to the FBI. They ARE NOT involved in this matter, but their account is frozen.

I truly appreciate all the input and apologize for the misinformation.

For those curious about the original post here it is:

My sister's account was frozen by the FBI and she has no idea why. The particular office that can provide more information does not open until Monday. The only thing she can think of is deposited check from an Ebay Auction. Has anyone ever had their accounts frozen or know of any other reason why bank accounts are frozen?

Bad Debts!
They can put a lien on your acct.

Thanks for the reply. I really don't think my sister and her husband have bad debts. They take their credit very seriously. Even if that were the case, wouldn't they be notified before a lien was placed against their account? I'll keep you updated when they find out more. Any other ideas? Thanks.

The FBI will if you owe the IRS.
And they won't notify you, that would just give you time to clean out your acct.
A friend once deposited his pay check in his bank then went to Sears to buy something when he go there he found he had no money. His debtor got it all.

Let this be a lesson to all of the high cost of owning a printer.

Wonder how much they owed: Filbert's Bottled Ink?

at what stage does owing IRS debt get the involvement of FBI seizing your bank account??
if you dont pay IRS,they could slap a lien on your house but it does not involve the FBI.
back in the days when savings and loans went under and FSLIC has to bail the depositors out,FBI investigated the borrowers who defaulted on their bank loans and see if there is fraud involved as at that stage, federal money is involved.

The FBI investigates cases of fraud, etc. They don't get involved in bad debts.

Well Guy's:
If the FBI don't get involved with bad Debt's
And they don't get involved the IRS.
And I'm sure they didn't freeze the acct. because someone from Ebay paid them. Or we'd all have our acct's frozen.
But they do get involved in fraud.
Then Someone must be selling something they shouldn't be selling!
And not small time.

it may just be a coincidence -just when you deposit an ebay check and when fbi acted.
i know FBI only gets involved when there is criminal activity involved.

Please don't give misinformation about the FBI being involved in anything like this. It is ludicrous to even suggest this to anyone.

How do you even know the "FBI" froze the account if you can't even talk to anyone until Monday? And you deposited a "check from an eBay auction?" What kind of check? Money order? Over the weekend?

Too little information, too few facts and no logic.

The FBI will freeze and seize assets if there is any unusual activity because they can claim it "might" be related to drug activity. I've read articles about it and seen cases on the tv before, they clean the person out and the person has no course of appeal. You usually don't get the money back.

As far as not being able to "clear" things up, the bank is open on Saturday morning, but the office/department involved with frozen accounts are not open on the weekends.

these days,terrorism too!
someone just commented how can anyone come to a public board and talk about this??
talk to a lawyer on monday.
if your sister is an honest law abiding citizen, she has nothing to fear.if there is something questionable about the ebay check, just give fbi all the info they want.

Now let's all just relax. Thinking like this can make kliggin nervous and thinking the worst. No one will know until Monday, so we should all sit back and forget commenting so that they can relax. Since we don't know all the particulars it is hard to comment on something like that. Come back Monday and give us the low down.

Maybe the last buyer she overcharged on shipping was an F.B.I. agent and that's his version of negative feedback?

stopwhining, "it is the state which bears the burden"

what burden? My ex owed over $50,000 but the state never gave me a dime. Do not assume that the state supports a single mother and her children just because some jerk doesn't. Many of us women were born with a brain and can support our children on our own!!!

I understood no one could touch your bank account other than the IRS without sueing you first.

My sister found out that the bank got suspicious when someone (or group of individuals) tried to withdraw funds from their account. According to her, this person (or group of individuals) are associated with some type of Nigerian scam. When I find out more, I'll be sure to post the message. Perhaps we all can benefit from their experience.

Once again, thanks for all the comments.
