People are not still bidding, he has no auctions running, and is now no longer registered. Where does that leave people who have paid and not received their items, do they have any recourse now??

Predict they will have 100 negs within the next 7 days

--------------------------------------------

Sadly, my prediction looks good. Too bad we couldn't have warned all these poor saps last week.

Sadly since he's no longer registered buyers will be unable to leave feedback...I believe...

I know what it is like to have bad things happen and even though I don't agree with what the user did. I feel bad that they got themselves into that mess. "Best laid plans of Mice and Men". They didn't plan too good unless they made a bundle and moved on. How they will get out of it nobody knows but I will make a bet some Newspaper will pick up on this. Since eBay is only a venue nothing will happen to them. Also PayPal is out of it since he hasn't been able to take PayPal so no chargebacks. I wish the buyers of these auctions good luck in trying to recoup their money but thing look pretty grim for tham. Probably Jail time for the seller unless he is a millionaire, which I doubt.

Libra03,

Actually... I wonder if eBay might have a problem pursuing their "only a venue" claim this time. Obviously, SOMETHING, caused Paypal to shut down his account (even before all his auctions ended). IF the thing that shut down his account was due to suspected fradulent activity... then I would think that eBay is in a bit of trouble. Paypal is now owned by eBay. Somebody is going to eventually ask the question "Why did Paypal do something when eBay didn't?". Is it a matter of the right-hand not talking to the left-hand? It sure looks like it... and I think some publicity-hungry lawyer might look at it as a nice class-action lawsuit. Of course... eBay DOES have their "insurance policy" for buyers... but it will only cover losses of $25-200. Lots of the DVD sales won't be covered... as well as a good portion of the money from the high-end electronics. (not to mention the s/h losses.) I really do hope that the newspapers will pick up on this, as I think the results of this story could be very interesting.

simple question why did it take me 5 minutes to work out this guy was a FRAUD long before his FIRST electronics auction ended....the simple fact he was offering BRAND new electronics at 50-75% off the normal price and numerous listings (20,000) a day at the peak says it all.............its simply greed by ebay to not have software to raise flags when this happen.....funny thing is whatever card this person has you know its not going to be able to aceept the fees heck might even be the largest bill ever for ebay in one month and will go unpaid LOL

buyersfriend,

I'm really not sure where you're getting your numbers from. I do agree that this guy is either WAY over his head... or a fraud. (leaning toward the fraud). But... In searching his completed his auctions... he only made a little over 2400 sales. The last time I ran his totals, they were up to just over 250K. Definately something to take notice of... but don't blow it out of proportion!!!

$250,000 will also get you looked at by the FBI... If I remember right it is called Grand Larceny and very much a felony crime.

60,000 auctions

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewListedItems&userid=mylittle1s&include=0&since=30&sort=3&rows=25

click on this link 25 auctions per page he has 2447 pages computes to over 60,000

now if you say the fraud is 250,000 that would make the average item $4.00

if you have the time look there are thousands of items over 300 dollar value

like i said if u have the time do the math!

buyersfriend,

Your link is showing 98 pages... with each page showing 25 auctions. (that's for a total of 2447 auctions... which is just what I said!)

As for the 250K... yes, I did do the math... but I did it the easy way. I have filters set up on Microsoft Word to take the HTML source from my completed auction, strip the HTML code and put it in delimitted format. That way I can easily import the information into my database. (What can I say... I work with with computers for a living!) Anyhow... using that same technique, I was able to pull his information and tally his sales in a spreadsheet. Piece-of-cake... and much more accurate then your 1 million dollar estimate.

Checked in with Ina @ Auctionbytes today. She said they had heard about this already and are planning on questioning eBay and writing a piece on it. She felt it was most troubling that the signs were all there in the middle of Feb, but it took until now for eBay to NARU the id. Should be interesting to hear eBay's take on the problem. If they even acknowledge there was a problem.

How does auctionbytes get information? Someone has to give the name of the seller or do they not include it in their article.

Yes I agree eBay needs checks and balances. When PayPal shut them down why didn't eBay look into it. The shut down of PayPal maybe had nothing to do with his selling but with his buying. I notice he bought on eBay before selling.

my guess is that his pay pal account got shut down because of the $10,000 rule:

" Users who receive more than $10,000 in payments during a single month may be required to provide PayPal with additional information in order to accept subsequent payments within the same month."

that rule probably is the reason his business or scam (you make the call)came crumbling down.

excuse me for being so thick.
if he exceeds 10k in a month, why cant he just provide the needed info and have the account open?who is that gold guy who was sued by paypal,he is no longer posting on the board?/he was getting big payment thru paypal??
may be i dont understand smart thief, dumb thief, listing all these pages of items take a lot of work, out in az??and watch the bidding started at 1.00??
there is just a easier way to scam, like i said ,right click all the bestsellers across categories and list them .
focus on items which will be over 100-3000,and list a few hundred and get the same results.
if you want to scam, you dont want to get the entire population of china and india sign up with you,the less victims the better, and when it comes to dollar amount, start with something more than a few bucks, less items but bigger profit with less victims.
i still think this guy is just a klutz, could be a young horatio algers with his bout of bad luck, poor planning and bad timing.
what do you guys think??

stopwhining - You seem like a caring person who likes to give someone the benefit of the doubt. Nothing wrong with that. I can respect your opinion.
However, I do not have sympathy for someone who is a eBay newbie and suddenly lists thousands of auctions and then all hell breaks loose. The whole PayPal matter, the drop shipping, horrible TOS, etc. etc.
To compound that, they stop all communications with the buyers, leaving them hanging. Sounds like a coward or a thief to me.

dont forget there are many teenagers and young sellers on ebay, college students, high school kids,or recent graduates who cant find job or lost their job.
these are not courageous ,mature, responsible ,resourceful individuals who step up and face a tough environment or rather a nightmare unfolding of his own making.
not everyone is a good businessman or a good ebay seller, how many sellers are surviving well in today;s ebay environment and how many can say they are prospering??
another problem with many of us is our capital is limited LTD,this guy if he has taken possession of some/all of these dvd,he wont have this problem.
dropshipping like i always said is a brilliant idea on paper,in reality,it could turn into a big nightmare.
how many of you have read on this forum, time and time again, sellers who dropshipped and find their paypal account locked up as buyers do not get their goods on time and complained to paypal??whatever happened to this seller who said he cried himself to sleep every nite and thought of committing suicide??how old is that kid??his parents have to feed him as his grocery money was locked up in his paypal account.

Stopwhining: I can see your point, maybe he was a young newbie that was in way over his head, but the difference between an overwhelmed newbie and this seller is that this one kept the money. I could be very sympathetic to one who realized they were in too deep and made right by returning the payments, but this seller appears to have made no attempt. One feedback even stated that the buyer received a cancellation confirmation from the seller, but he then cashed the checks (worth approx $350). That makes him a criminal instead of just inept.

well.if so,he is now forced down the path of a cyber thief.
cashing check and sending out cancellation confirmation.
the chinese has an old saying, the first bite is filthy,so is the second bite, and so on and on.it is used to refer to women who commit adultery or prostituting herself once for whatever reason, now the john or pimp said to her, what difference does it make,if you have done it once, you may as well keep doing it???
i know nice girls who do it once to pay rent or need money get trapped into prostitution ,prostitution is an interesting topic,i dont understand why we dont discuss it,this board is packed with prudes!!
