I list on Monday and Tuesday evenings, but I think I will hold off this week. With the war 99% sure to start this week I am thinking people will be watching the news and not thinking about eBay. What are your thoughts on this?

I look at this two ways. I think when it starts (and it will start this week) that people will be watching it 24/7 - A couple of days later, people will start to drift and resume other activities. I think by Sunday people might be looking for a diversion.

The dilema I am facing is I am starting a trip on Wednesday night. I am not thrilled at the prospect of flying as war breaks out.

I'm hoping to sell autographed pics of King George Armstrong Custer Bush League sitting on his throne with the puppet strings showing from his hands and mouth; and if you buy more than one, I'll add a pic of Dick Cheney drinking an oil cocktail...cheers!

Hey Waynebm selling pictures that would profit from the war is a great idea. You still have time to take to make it to Iraq and join the bunch who are going to be human shields. Maybe I can get a spy satellite picture of you catching a cruise missile in your teeth. That should be a good seller.

Come on people...where's your American spirit (...lol...)...don't cha'think eBay bidders can watch TV and surf eBay at the same time? LOL....I know it's a lot to expect of someone but.....

On a serious note...I'm sure that for the first couple of days (should things go as everyone is predicting)everyone will be glued to the tv...but don't forget the millions of "at work" eBay bidders who jump online (instead of working)....I guess we'll have to just have to see which way the wind blows.....(peace)

OK...to begin the countdown to madness I have posted on eBay the book WHEN GOD BECOMES A DRUG BY FATHER LEO BOOTH, Item # 3507991331. It is totally acceptable for someone to buy it as a gift for the King in the Dark House. And my new friend DUMBHAWK, I'll let you know when I have posted on eBay WHEN OIL BECOMES A DRUG because you really need some education in world affairs. Then again, you really need to be a human shield yourself...cheers!

Say waynebm DUMBHAWK has a rather nice ring to it don't you think?

Waynebm said "I'll let you know when I have posted on eBay WHEN OIL BECOMES A DRUG because you really need some education in world affairs. "

I think I'm probably as aware of world affairs as you are and I support the president 100%. I'm also aware of history and there has always been a Brutus or a Hanoi Jane around. The great thing about this country is that even the Brutus or Jane is allowed to voice their opinion.

By the way I see the latest polls show that Americans support the President 2 to 1.

I am begining to believe that it is healthy for a super power to get its Butt kicked once every generation or so. Otherwise they get arrogant. Lord knows we are just about the most arrogant nation to ever exist right about now. I hope I am wrong, and I hope it is fast and everything works out as georgey has it planned (hey, he should be clean by now, right?), but I am afraid we are walking right into it.

I will probably post some this week, but not to the extent that we normally do. I think that “IF” the war goes as expected, such won’t distract to badly from the sales – but if there are also terrorists attacks here in the States, then I’ll back off the auctions, as I do believe that such is much more distracting than war in a distant land.

In my opinion, any large terrorist attack in the US, and we might see a wide drop in sales, similar to 9/11, but not as sever – I don’t believe the country will ever be so shocked again....

waynebm – Ignoring what has been happening in Iraq to their own people is paramount to knowing about the German concentration camps and ignoring the truth of the Third Reich – such would come back one day to haunt the souls of good people –

Overview and Techniques of Torture in Iraq

Torture has been called the 20th century epidemic. Amnesty International estimates there are more than 90 countries in the world that systematically practice torture. A fundamental characteristic of torture and ill-treatment is that it is an integral part of the institutional structure of many states. Iraq under Saddam Hussain is high on the list of countries practising torture.
Terrible techniques of torture practised by Saddam Hussain's regime against the Iraqi people include:

Tying up in a chair with electrodes connected to many parts of the body to administer electric shocks.
Wipping with a steel cables (covered in plastic)
Hanging by chains (upright or from the feet)
Forced sitting on brocken bottle.
Forced sitting on gas heaters.
Hanging by the feet from a rotating ceiling fan whilst being beaten.
Burning with fire.
Tying the hands to electric cooking heating elements.
Branding with a hot iron (usually the forehead).

Applying a hot solder iron to the hands and feet.
Breaking the nose and bones with a hammer.
Pulling out finger and toe nails with pliers.
Amputating limbs with a chain saw.

Pumping air or boiling water through the rectum.
The classic (Chinese) water torture.
Imprisoning in a hole full of filth.
Clubbed on the head and genitalia.
Loud Noise torture.
Crucifiction. Also with ears not hands fastened with nails.
Airtight room with soaring temperature.
Extracting teeth with pliers.
Hammering nails into the fingers and hands.
Acid (also disposing of bodies in acid baths and ovens).
Leaving dead bodies left to rot in the vicinity of prisoners.
The use of wild dogs.
Suffocation and submersion (wet and dry submarino).
Nailing the tongue to a wooden board.
Pouring boiling oil on the body and limbs.
Spraying the eyes with insecticides.
Hanging women by their hair while their husbands and children are forced to watch.
Rape (male and female) while the victim's spouse is forced to watch.
Hanging a woman by the legs (especially when menstruating).
Using hornets, wasps, spiders and scorpions to sting naked Children while their parents are forced to watch.
Amputating the penis or breasts with an electric carving knife.
Psychological Torture: Threats, deceit, humiliation, insults, sham executions, etc.
.... and more, much more!
Although torture and ill-treatment can be conducted on both physical and psychological levels, an act of torture can never be classified as having exclusive physical or psychological effects. Much of the trauma and stress of torture arises from the total experience of incarceration and ill-treatment, rather than from specific acts of violence.

Yes, the above is gross, but lets not ignore it, as happened during the holocaust - this it is everyday life in Iraq!

"That a boy" bm. Enjoy the freedoms of America then tear it down and criticize it. I have a daughter who has been deployed and will fight to give Americans and others the right to live in a free society. I am only sad that she will fight to give people like you freedom as you do not appreciate what you have and you do not deserve the freedoms that we have. Continue to criticize, thats OK, the true Americans will continue to fight to protect your rights and cover your backside. Our soldiers need support and not alot of "bm".

What worries me most is that fear will stop us from doing the everyday, mundane things that our troops are fighting for...FREEDOM...

if we let this happen, then the terrorists and the likes of Saddam have won....I refuse to let that happen to my life.

I will be listing and going on with everyday life as usual...I will still be worried and praying for our young men and women that are in the armed forces.

May god watch over us all.

Good point rarriffle. Bin Laden (and I'm sure Hussein also) has been waging
psychological warfare on the American people since the very first bombing of the
World trade trade center. Terrorists do not need to partake in physical combat, their
strength lies in our fear of what could happen. We can't let that have any bearing in
how we as a country have always gone about our business. I had to laugh at the
hysteria a few weeks ago, when everyone went running out to buy plastic sheeting and
duct tape... when we are attacked again, it will be on our own soil, but without
warning. Do I want to sit around waiting and worrying about when that is going to
happen? No way! Even if I don't support the president, I do support my
country and the brave troops who have gone to defend OUR FREEDOM. I'm happy to say I have been listing as usual, with 99% sell through with some real high final bid shockers lately. Ahhhhh..AMERICA! Not being arrogant, just PROUD!

DEMOCRATIC SENATOR, ZELL MILLER HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!! AMAZING!!!

Interesting analogy given on the Senate Floor – by Democrat Zell Miller – as support of the attack of Iraq.....he basically says it all – (and personally, I’ve never been a Zell Miller fan, but in this issue he is right on)

Zell Miller knows how to boil things down to the basics. That's what
Georgia's junior senator did Thursday when he explained why it's
important that Saddam Hussein be defanged.

But he's also a good storyteller. Here's the text of Mr. Miller's
remarks, made on the Senate floor about the need to help President Bush
deal with Iraq. We couldn't say it any better:

"Mr. President, I have signed on as an original co-sponsor of the Iraq
resolution, and I'd like to tell you a story about why I think it is the
right path to take:
A few weeks ago, we were doing some work on my back porch back home,
tearing out a section of old stacked rocks, when all of a sudden I
uncovered a nest of copperhead snakes.

Now, I'm not one to get alarmed at snakes. I know they perform some
useful functions, like eating rats. And when I was a young lad, I kept
snakes as pets. I had an indigo snake, a bull snake, a corn snake and
many others. I must have had a dozen king snakes at one time or another.
They make great pets and you only had to feed them a mouse every 30 days.
I read all the books by Raymond C. Ditmars, who was the foremost
herpetologist of his day. That's an expert on snakes.

For a while, I wanted to be a herpetologist, but the pull of being a
big-league shortstop outran that childhood dream.

I reminisce this way to explain that snakes don't scare me like they do
some people. And I guess the reason is that I know the difference
between those that are harmless and those that will kill you.
In fact, I bet I may be the only senator in this body who can look at
the last three inches of a snake's tail and tell you whether it's
poisonous or not. I can also tell the sex of a snake, but that's another
story.

A copperhead will kill you. It could kill one of my dogs. It could kill
one of my grandchildren. It could kill any of my four great
grandchildren. They play all the time where I found these killers.
And you know, when I discovered these copperheads, I didn't call my wife
Shirley and ask her advice, like I do on most things. I didn't yell for
help from my neighbors or take it to the city council. I just took a hoe
and knocked them in the head and killed them. Dead as a doorknob.
I guess you could call it a unilateral action. Or pre-emptive or even
bellicose and reactive.

I took their poisonous heads off because they were a threat to me. And
they were a threat to my home and my family. They were a threat to all I
hold dear.

And isn't that what this is all about?"

Zell, you said it all!

jwpc, thank you for that story...it tells it all....but why didn't we smack him in the head the first time we had the chance?

I have read that some people are not spending any money...saving it...for what?

when this war starts, our economy is going to need all the help we can give it, in our own little way...

it seems to me that shopping has always been a way some people cope with stress and depression. some of our worst economic times meant the best retail Christmas seasons in the last few years.

People will keep getting up in the morning and going to work and shopping and all the other things they do because that is what they know how to do.

We all remember the Vietnam War and the fear that we had, we all lost many friends and relatives in that war. Let's just hope this ends with less loss of life than that one. God bless and watch over our boys.

*The Guardian*, of Sept. 2002, the London journal reported a meeting of the Royal Institute of International Affairs there, composed of leading oil executives, Iraqi exiles, and (of course) international legal experts. The title of the closed door confab? "Invading Iraq: Dangers and Opportunities for the Energy Sector". One attendee summed up the day's events with the telling quip: "Who gets the oil?" And there it is... So you can argue that we are fighting for freedom; that's what they want you to think!
