it has to be drawn on a us bank, else you could have clearance problem or pay extra to clear.
canadian post office also sells us money order you can cash at your post office with photo id.

To make life easy just have them pay you via bidpay, postal money order, otherwise some banks charge highway robbery fees to accept it, if they accept it at all.
No problem if they have a U.S. bank account in the states. If they just write in on a canadian check u.s. funds a lot of banks will not accept them.

Ask your bank. A Canadian check can be written in US funds however some banks charge up to $25 to clear personal international checks. You can sometimes get them waive this charge but the time to find out is now.

Check has to be written from a U.S. bank or the United States banks will not cover it. In order to collect on it, it would cost you $15.00 from the U.S. bank and another $15.00 from the Canadian bank. So make sure it is U.S. drawn. I wouldn't ship merchandise till it cleared. I learned the hard way. The person never reimbursed for the merchandise, she received items, and also her money order back(was suppose to send me another one, but never did). So just make sure you make it clear to the customer that when it clears, you will send merchandise.

I can tell you that my bank will NOT accept a check drawn on a Canadian bank in U.S. dollars.

Part of the reason we don't sell to Canadians any more. Doesn't stop them from sending me nasty email, though. I got one today from some Canuck bimbo threatening to turn me in to eBay for not shipping to Canada.

Tee-hee.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll tell him he has to use Bidpay or an International MO.
