Florida,
You must be feeling a little beat-up by now from these replies. (Rough bunch on this board..tell ya like it is.)

One thing I just reconsidered is I guess I can understand your concern, as the 1st invoice went out okay, but the reminder bounced. ?? Why dont you talk it thru with your buyer and sell him the thing? Ask ebay to remove neg?

But you learn by experience. It seems to me with Ebay; its always a waiting game.

(smiles) Kiara...lets sing "the crying game!" hahah...

Keep your reciept, once you mail it it is out of your hands. All DC does is confirm that the buyer is not trying to defraud you. If they decide the item is not worth insuring then why should you self insure it? That is what you do if you send a refund.

I am very pleased with eDC - I never had a big problem before, but it is really nice when people ask me where their package is, to give them this information. I ship a lot of things via media mail, so they can see that I did ship the next day, and that it is just taking 10 days to go across the country.

Another nice thing about it is I am sure I was being scammed before, and now when they say it has not arrived, I can show them that it was delievered. Amazing how many packages suddenly show up, or were forgotten about.

Thank you for some input.

To answer Tom's questions-

1. I copied the address supplied by Paypal in the Paypal notification of payment.

2. The address did not have a bar code.

3. I do not use eDC on first class mail because it is not a measly 13 cents, it is $9.95 per month + 13 cents.

Taking those costs into account I could have a $15 package lost every 1 & 1/2 months, refund all of them and still break even.
Alternatively, if I went to the post office then DC is 55 cents on first class mail plus $? for my time waiting in line !

As many people have said, it is very rare a package is lost so is it possible that this buyer is trying to scam me ?

As I said at the beginning of this thread I am perfectly prepared to refund to save the hassle, but I know I mailed the package so should I really have to take responsibility for the USPS if they lose it ?

Yo! FishHead: The PO's SHIPPING ASSISTANT is FREE if the monthly ENDICIA fees are a biggie -- there are certain aspects of ENDICIA that make it cost-effective for me to cough-up that $14.95/month -- yer milage may vary!

Fact remains, that for FIRST CLASS MAIL & all other PACKAGE SERVICES, eDC IS a measly $0.13 via the USPS's FREE Shipping Assistant.

It doesn't cost me $9.95 per month, I print out the label, and use good old stamps to send packages. In fact, I often buy my stamps below face value, so I am actually saving money on postage. (for those who don't believe me, look up DISCOUNT POSTAGE on ebay) - I don't usually bid on ebay (unless we are talking about a $1000+ lot) but a postage broker can often get you stamps at 85-90% face. When you spend a couple of thousand a month on postage, that can add up!

ahc3: are you PRINTING LABELS via SHIPPING ASSISTANT & then affixing POSTAGE STAMPS??

I hope everybody realizes that you CANNOT just CUT-OFF the FREE eDC labels that the PRIORITY MAIL page generates for FREE??

You may get away with it for a day or a year, but eventually, a savvy PO worker will SLAP A POSTAGE DUE STICKER on yer package & but a great big on your recipients face??!!

HELPFUL TIDBITS FROM USPS:

Q. Can I cut-off the PC Postage (indicia) part of the label and use it separate from the online label?
A. No, online labels with PC Postage service can only be used as a whole, the way they were printed. Packages with postage cut from an online label will be returned to sender.

Q. Can I cut-off the top part of the Priority Mail label and use the address and Delivery Confirmation service part for a Parcel Post or Media Mail package?
A. No, online labels can only be used as a whole, the way they were printed. Online label packages mailed at rates other than Priority Mail do not qualify for the electronic rate for Delivery Confirmation and need to be charged the retail rate.

as a retailer, there are things you can get away on ebay which you cannot if you have a store,a respectable store!!
since item is not insured and dc checks out it has been delivered to his post office, you can tell him it is just too bad for him.
yes,it could be a scam,it could be stolen or just misplaced.
but like i said, ebay is different,it just serves him right to buy on ebay,he could go to bestbuy, compusa, neiman marcus, macy, sears, walmart and get better results but the fact he chose to buy from an auction seller, this is the risk he is exposed to.
now back to something more relevant and in good taste-why does my morning cup of coffee tastes so lousy??

-sig file -------The thrill is gone!!

I think you are pretty confused here. I use USPS Shipping Assistant to generate a label. You can't actually pay for postage with this program, just generate the label. You are supposed to take these to the post office to add postage to the package. There is ZERO difference between them sticking a meter label on, and me affixing postage stamps. These are not free labels by the way, I pay 13 cents extra for media mail, first class mail, and parcel post. It is only free for priority and express mail, all other classes of mail cost 13 cents extra.

ahc3:

Twern't confused: the way you be doing it is the way I would do it if I wern't useing ENDICIA

Since I rarely use PRIORITY mail, I have to purchase BOXES -- keeping 5 or 6 different sizes on hand all the time has proven to be a large expense which I have to pass along to the bidder in the form of my SHIPPING FEE!

STEALTH INDICIA has enabled me to do this without incurring the wrath of my winners -- I also have had NO shipping debates for past 12 mos, so, for now, the extra moola I pay ENDICIA each month is worth it to me in sanity-savings

If I didn't save so much on the stamps, I would be doing it like you are, with endica stealth. What I have going for me is for people to figure out how much they are paying, they might need a calculator since they can't add in their head (I had someone today use a calculator to figure out 50 cents change from a $1 purchase. Really sad!) - I think my handling charges are reasonable, I generally will add $1 to the price, so I rarely get complaints.
