I have a tray that is marked Sheffield Silver C - Made in USA and has the letters EPC inside blocks on it. Can anyone help me date this piece? The piece is heavier, does that mean that it is not silver and is instead silveplated? Thanks!

EPC means that it is electroplated on copper. Not sure of the age but perhaps 1940's?

Here are a couple of sites about silver marks.

Yes It is probably 1940's - I took a piece like it to a silver company just knowing I had found some old Sheffield Plate - NOT. It had the same mark and they said 1940's or so.
Sorry to tack on a question but does anyone know the maker of sterling that has a mark of a cross with a crown over it on the bottom. As if the crown was laying at the foot of a cross. Also signed sterling/
Thanks

Here is a directory of silver marks. Perhaps check the one for Manchester.

There is another identifier here with a drop down list of marks.

Bingo - I didn't even see the little m on the cross.
Kiara - you should start your own business identifying stuff for people - you are always a big help.
Thanks

You're welcome.

I noticed that my favorite English Database of Hallmarks is gone. Wonder what happened to them?

If I started my own business it would be "work" and it might not be fun anymore.
