ok this is just ridiculous. im convinced 75% of the people that bid on ebay
dont know how to read. i have sold hundreds of items on ebay and ALL OF THE
TIME i get people asking how to complete the transaction AFTER vendio sends
them an email with instructions and AFTER they have viewed the auction which
clearly states how to complete the transaction by clicking the CHECKOUT
button.

then i also have them #*!@, complain and threaten because they sent a
paypal payment to the incorrect paypal address and they demand i fix their
problem and send their item regardless.

then i also have people that ask again for my payment address or paypal
email to send payment, even though after they completed checkout it told them
the PRINT the page, which includes the payment address/email. but they
dont.

is vendios checkout system to complicated or what? it seems very self explanatory to me! but doesnt seem to be for 75% of ebay buyers out there!

may be you should have your own website, then you will get the visitors undivided attention.
ebay has too many sellers and too many terms of sale.

Illiterate ??....Why should buyers jump hoops and do the seller's bookeeping for them. If I buy an item I hit the Pay Now button and it's over.
If you plan on using some antiquated, longwinded, insecure checkout system that's your problem. You can clip and paste all the info you need from my Paypal payment.
Don't ship in 7 days and I'll simply file a non-shipment claim.

People are basically lazy.

horsey, for one im not "using some antiquated, longwinded, insecure checkout system". stop coming to your own dumbass assumptions.

all the customer has to do is click CHECKOUT in the auction listing or visit the link i send them in an email.

First off speedracer, learn to ignore stopwhining and horsey -- they are no help to anyone.

Yes, it seems most of the buyers don't read. I spell out shipping in my auctions and still get questions from people asking how much shipping is to XYZ, New Jersey or whereever. Or they just ask questions that are answered clearly in the auction.

I go to pains to have my info well laid out too -- not a dense paragraph.

The buyer SHOULD do their part, but I'm learning they don't -- and I want their money --- so I just fill out the checkout form for them. it's better than jumping through hoops to get them to follow the terms they agreed to (in this one little matter).

I'm having similar results with my customers. I have instructions all over the place and over half of them still wont go through the Vendio checkout.

I don't know what my ultimate solution will be but it just may be to chunk the Vendio system and go with the Paypal checkout.

The only conclusions I can come to are my own.
You asked a question and said you were using Vendio checkout.
I gave you my accurate answer. If you would prefer one of your own answers please email it to my and I would be happy to post it here for you.

thank you!

glad to know horsey and stopwhining are dimwhits.

i send the standard vendio emails to all winners of my auctions that ask to visit a link to complete the transaction. all my auctions state the preferred method of checkout in my listings.

Words really hurt me...Now I'll be depressed for the whole Christmas season.
Any checkout scheme that needs me to type in anything other that the amount of the payment is long winded, antiquated and useless.

"75% of my buyers are complaining about my checkout" but it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Words really hurt me...Now I'll be depressed for the whole Christmas season and maybe the whole of next year.
Put a page of mumnbo jumbo terms and buyers will abide by them all.

Guess that's your basic question why aren't buyers following my stupid terms and checkout requirements.
All Paypal payments already have addresses. No need to retype the whole balll of wax in an useless checkout.

I love people who ask questions and sthen insist on sticking with their own preconceived answers

well, i couldnt pass this one up...stopwhining and horsey dimwitted? i think not...d---, i just sided with them...now for your thread, Mr. 7400, you accused someone of making dumbass assumptions...well, for you to accuse 75% of the ebay bidders of illiteracy does make you rather ASSumptive also, does it not? what do you base your assumption on? have you done business with this many people on ebay?? i think not, especially since you state you have done business with hundreds of people, i must advise you, this is not enuff of a statistical base to produce such a percentage...have a nice - a safe one!

seriously now, as you may or may not agree; we do live, work in a less than perfect world - then there's the ebay arena...

omg, you are just a dimwhitted as they are. 3 out of every 4 (for those that never finished HS that is the same as 75%) people i do business with on ebay ask questions that are answered in the listing, the winning bid notification email, and at checkout. i have sold over 300 hundred items on ebay over the last 2 years. i do not state assumptions, morons are those that produce assumptions.

Let's take the rhetoric down a notch.

speedracer7400: If you want an experienced and unprejudiced eye to look over your auctions for signs of trouble, just email me (click on my name). I'm out of the office for the next couple hours but I'll respond when I get back.

I think part of what you are experiencing is a stubborn dislike of Checkouts in general. Sometimes people express that dislike by emailing the seller directly to make him go through the extra work of completing the sale manually.

But if you've got 3 out of 4 transactions being problematical, perhaps we can help.

yes stopwhining, having your own website is a valid idea. however this is not what i do for a living, so a website would not be worth the time and hassle when the checkout system would be the same as any other. =)

Does your check-out have a PayPal pay-now button? I thought Vendio's did - that may be your problem if you don't use it. People are used to the PayNow button. They dont want to print VD checkout page or type in the auction information and seller email to pay. If Vendio doesn't have a PayNow button, then I agree with Horsey - it's an antiquated checkout system!!

I just want to claify this one. You state that 75% of your customers either do not like or do not understand your system but that is not your problem - it is that of your customer.

Doesn't the sheer volume of those who bypass you system tell you that there may be a problem with it?

Don't you think that in light of the numbers that you have provided that it might be time to rethink your system, possibly using the action and feedback of those who are in control of your income as a guideline?

The amazing thing is that in light of lower closure rates and increased deadbeats, your customers pay and you have still found something to complain about.

the whole checkout process, whether it be vendio, paypal or amazon.com is really no different and its not an anitquated method until telepathy is integrated into websites.

all ecommerce sites collect the same data, shipping address, billing address, credit card information. paypal is no different.
you still have to register with them, not all ebayers have paypal accounts, not all people want to pay paypal.

i offer paypal payments on my auctions, but most people prefer to pay with cashiers check/money order. i also dont believe people are lazy and refuse to fill out their shipping information on any site if they are making a purcahse. its not a matter of having a non-telepathic website which horsey must have, the whole issue here is why people will not read instructions, details, etc.

people have gotten to used to skimming and are too lazy to read details.

I think the question is not just about buyers being illiterate, I think it's people in general. Just take a look at the many listings where there are blatant errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. I'm not talking about someone having a typo or two--I mean blatant misuse of the English language. The only difference between idiot buyers and idiot sellers is the fact that there must be some kind of "savant" factor in sellers that gives them the ability to complete the steps to launch an auction!

I would think that "idiot buyers" (i.e. newbies) would appear in droves during the holiday season since they heard about dear cousin Mabel who bought all her holiday gifts through eBay last year.

Not lurkyloo on eBay

Funny - I have purchased four items today on ebay. On all of these items I have paid via PayPal and on none of them havve I had to fill out any type of checkout form. All of my information is automatically provided.

What PayPal checkout info do you generally have to fill out?

I also am thinking that you might be exaggerating your plight just a bit. On those auctions where I accept PayPal, at least 90% of my customers use that option. On the ones that I don't (higher ticket items on international sites) usually about half ask why and if I could possibly make an exception (if they have a high feedback rating I usually do).

What is it that you are selling that the vast majority of your buyers are illiterate and years behind the internet buying & payment curve?

at some point people have to fill out the same information along ALL ecommerce sites. filling out shipping information shouldnt be new whether or not they have registered with the site and their shipping info is saved or not.

some people might want the auction sent to ANOTHER address no listed in their paypal account, this again would require the user to fill out the shipping information. but besides the point. its not a matter of people filling out shipping/billing information, the problem is them reading instructions on how to get to that point.

on another note. there have been times that i didnt accept paypal and others that i have. i can only remember a small few that asked why i didnt accept paypal, while others were happy paying other methods. i then readopted paypal, and surprisingly its not used as often as i thought. so your guess is a good as mine.

i sell all sorts of things, clothes, video games, movies, music, computers/accessories. whatever i have lying around i dont want/need/use. if it doesnt sell it goes to the goodwill.
