the hair powder spray from the early 60's? you would spray and comb it through your hair instead of washing it? turned your hair gray as i recall.
i want to find some for a gag gift and cannot remember the name!

I used to love that stuff! It was great if you were in a hurry, and on camping trips. Wish they still made it.

O.K., yes, I go back way beyond the 60's! In England it was just called dry shampoo, I think you can get a similar product for pets now. We used to use it for a quick fix as teenagers.

It's called MINIPOO. It was a quick fix powder you would comb through your hair when you slept late and couldn't wash your hair. It is in a paper tube about the size of a silver dollar and about 6 inches high. I don't remember a spray can though. Remember Aqua Net was the most familiar hair spray.

I know a great use for Aqua Net (you can still get it in the dollar stores). Spray it on wasps or hornets that get in the house. As soon as it hits 'em they drop. Gums up their wings. Cheaper than wasp spray and not nearly as toxic (maybe). Tom, you are a hoot! And what does that number mean? Tell us, puleeeeeeez!

I think the hairspray works on any small insect (not roaches; they'll live through anything). I've sprayed ants with it and it did them in.
I remember that dry shampoo. It did turn my hair gray, even before its time, and I didn't think it was so great so threw out the can. I too was unaware they still make it.

You obviously have never tried wd 40 and a light. don't burn for S*** but the concept is great. Used to use hair spray and a lighter to kill spiders under the house before I entered. Love those toasted spinders.... David

Memories! Oh my the memories that come flooding back! I remember a powder dry shampoo you combed through your hair when I was in college in the late 50s - early 60s. We washed our hair once a week then. Never occurred to me that it could be washed every day. I guess because washing it was always followed by curlers and a hair dryer which took a looong time. My minor was theater and in the run up to a play there was just no time for sleep and certainly no time for the hair washing process. I still remember the way that stuff made your hair feel, UCK!, but I must have though it looked better because I used it. Thanks for the memories Rarriffle.

Photosensitive: Now you've struck a chord for me! In the 50s I slept with pin curls. Then we had those awful brush rollers that hurt the scalp when you tried to sleep on them. I recall that the "new" hooded hairdryers were a big help. When I told my two daughters that we washed our hair once a week, they said eeeewwww. But it was such a huge production, wasn't it!
Seems to me the daily shampooing came in about the time that long straight hair came in, but I could be mistaken. Long straight hair doesn't need any rollers or special treatment.
Now I wash my hair every other day and that's enough to keep it looking fresh and okay.
When I see how fast my husband gets through that daily shower and shampoo, I'm envious. Wash it, run the blower about 30 seconds, comb it, and voila.

In the 50's my dad use to make bug screens. Basically cut out the sides of a shopping cart, mount them on insulators about an inch apart, and hook them up to a neon sign transformer. Put a fluorescent light behind it and voila you have an evenings entertainment. Bug zappers ain't nothing, this thing would blast a dragonfly like a B-17 hit in the bomb load.

Yeah, I remember sleeping in rollers, I think that is why my head is still full of indentions. It was hard to have your hair look good with rollin & rattin not to mention how hard it was trying to sleep without the rollers coming out during the night.
Daily shampooing came in with blow dryers and curling irons. It was just before I went to school for my hairdresser's license. I started school in Feb 75 when shampoo and sets were still 95% of business but blow drying was starting becoming the thing.

ahhhhh....the ratted hairdos! do you remember the newspaper articles that would tell about bugs and vermin being found in hairdos that had not been washed in a month or so?
those were the hygenic age....
the can of Psssst is now over $20 and still going.
i may have to give talcum powder with a fake label for my gag gift.

rarriffle -- Sorry that you can't buy the actual Pssssst. I remember that! My mom used to use it on my sister's long straight hair. And, yes, we did wash our hair only once a week, but mine was short and curly and obviously not worth the bother! Personally, I keep watching the toot-a-loops. I want a red one! That was the one that my parents bought for me for my birthday when I was a child (I think, 8 or 9). I LOVED it! Right now they are going for way out of my price budget.
