niel: you can download an extension and do it all with mouse movements, if you wish.

There is a revise or re-new button.

niel: scared the h out of me too when I first started using it. There are some inexpensive books on Firefox. The August issue of MaximumPC has a good article on Firefox and its features.

I tried to download Firefox once, but it would jam when importing my favorites. Kept asking for the disk. Anyone else have this problem and if so, how do you solve it? I'd like to get rid of IE.

Thanks Bill - will see if I can find that article. A new program is always scarey until you get into it. So far so good, tho.
Cheryl - my guru didn't seem to have any problems and liked the features.

I'll never understand the instant negative reactions to all things MS???

My first "PC" was an ATARI400 back in 1981 -- then I consumed: ATARI 800 and then TEXAS INSTRUMENTS and then TANDY COLOR and then COMMODORE64 and then in 1985...

THE ULTIMATE: Apple IIc

Guess what? Computers STUNK!

I didn't come back until 1998 when I got my first "modern" PC from GATEWAY & I was totally blown-away by WINDOWS 98!

WOW! This OS really was GREAT to me!

Had to read 2 "DUMMIES" books, but that only took about 3 hours -- after that, I never looked back!

I've NEVER gotten a VIRUS or TROJAN or SPYWARE or GATOR-BITE!

I LOVE MICROSOFT!

Quote from a new computer magazine:

“If there were an Internet Bible, this would be the latest passage in the Book of Browsers.

The browsers clashed and so Netscape was smited by Internet Explorer, and the progeny of Microsoft reigned over the land. But lo, for Netscape had a brother, and that brother was named Mozilla. And Mozilla begat the mighty Firefox, and Internet Explorer trembled in fear”

tomwiii I started with a Mag Card, then the Atari, then the TANDY, then (one whose name I can't recall but it was the highest rated computer of that day), then my husband went to Compaq, and in a couple of years, under his advice I went to a Compaq also.

TOM - of course when you can date your computer use back to Atari, well one is dating themselves!

It was my husband’s reasoning that since we ran multiple computers, it would be easier for him (as it is his responsibility to keep all of our computers mechanically sound) and that if we all used the same brand it would make it easier on him.

So, today we have 5 Compaq's, my husband learned to build computers from the shell up, and our computers haven't seen a tech or repair shop since 1995. Most of our local relatives and friends also have Compaq’s since it is so easy to call my husband to fix their various screw ups.

When your business is e-commerce, it isn't exactly cost effective to have to call a tech for repairs, and many of the techs we used in the early days did more damage than good.

We run MS XP, along with Norton Utilities, AdWare, SpyBot, etc. In 24 years on computers we have never had a virus/worm/etc. PTL

niel35 It is almost always a bit of a pain to learn a new program, but the fact is, that computers are going to continue to change, as are programs and it will probably always be an issue of learning something new.

I have Mozilla (creator of FireFox) on my computer as an alternate, but personally, I prefer IE.

We love Microsoft!

Got a question? Can you run both Firefox and IE at the same time?? I have both Mozilla and IE running right now. I like Mozilla for my email and have found a few fatal errors when trying to run it here so I use IE. Just wondering.

Yes, you can run both Firefox and IE as two browsers if that is what you mean. It is my understanding that you cannot remove IE as it is built in the Microsoft system.

Kevin: on reading again, I am confused (and that's easy for me). You say you have Mozilla running and want to know if you can run Firefox and IE at the same time.

Firefox is Mozilla.

Sorry for the confusion etexbill. SBC uses a form of Mozilla for their browser window. That is the one that I use for my email. Now that I have confused everyone, I'll shut up.

The only thing to keep in mind is that ebay recently broke part of the implementation for the "my Ebay" pages on Firefox. Specfically, the status "drop box" no longer shows the little arrow next to it (where you can change the $, *, etc. icons). Assuming you need that page to work (and until they fix it), find the "User Agent Switcher" extension and install that. Change the entry from "default" to "IE" and the drop box will work again.

You can run any browser you want with Windows IE. I have Mozilla, IE, and just removed Netscape. I use to use Netscape to see how certain ads or colors were showing up on Netscape, but since so few now use it, I decided to delete it. Netscape doesn't run the vast amount of colors that IE does, and what appears to be "pink" on IE, may show up as "beige" on Netscape! I decided that Netscape users should be aware of its limitations, and if they still choose to use it, then it isn't my responsibility to adjust colors just for their browser.
