Ok, let's try this again. Seems the last post I made didn't get put up, there was a database error.

I still offer BidPay as a payment option (which is of course Western Union money orders). A while back BidPay changed their name to Western Union something or other, then people were saying bad things about Western Union so they changed back to BidPay. Just about everyone pays me with PayPal anyways, so maybe I should just drop BidPay as an option?

Also, why IS Western Union so bad? Someone in another post was eluding to the fact that nobody should use Western Union.

I've never heard any serious complaints about them. The buyer pays, they send you a money order. About the only thing that can go wrong is if the MO is lost in the mail.

If there is a problem, I'd like to hear about it too.

Actually, there is nothing wrong with Western Union, it gets a bad press because crooks like to use it. Once you send money by wire, it can be picked up at any Western Union office. You can be stuck with junk or nothing as the buyer. BidPay is not the same, it is sent by mail to a specfic address.

Ah, I see.

But I do recall some kind of campaign urging people not to use Western Union (could have been due to lack of buyer protection with WU but not PP), maybe that was PayPal's propaganda. It was about that time when BidPay switched back to their original name and not call themselves Western Union.

ebay warns people not to use Western Union - of course they are hardly a disinterested party because they own WU's competitor, PayPal! I think the reason for the warnings is because of the Nigerian scammers and their ilk. I have never had a problem with BidPay/Western Union Auction payments.

I never had a problem with BidPay. Naturally Ebay wants people to shun it and use Paypal because they own paypal and Western Union is a competitor. However Western Union has been in business a very long time and if they did not conduct business in a proper manner, they would not still be in business. As far as buyer protection, Paypal is not all that great in itself although you do have recourse if you use your credit card to buy. Understand that if you sell overseas, Paypal offers no protection and Bidpay should be the way to go. If your bank cashes the money order, there should be no problem in shipping your item.

i think in some countries, western union is perhaps the norm or more convenient for the buyer. in particular, i've had western union money orders several times from G.I.'s stationed in Kuwait and Iraq and from one repeat buyer in South Africa.

Once again, I must say there is a differencew betwen W/U & W/U BidPay. You get a Money Order from B/P, not from W/U. That is the most important thing to remember. As I stated before, if it is a W/U payment, you go to any of their offices & collect your payment. NOT the same as BidPaY.
