OK, so I'm getting store items and such ready for the New Year, but am wondering how to handle the rate hike as my handling fees will change with the new rate hike.

Anyone now when the Ebay and Vendio calculators will change over to reflect hikes?

Will it be the Dec. 29 since 10-day listings would end on the 8th? The first since seven-day listings end on the 8th? Or...on the 8th?

Hmm, good question. I hadn't even thought of that. I'll drop Vendio a email and ask them and post the reply here as soon as I get it.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I also posted same question on Ebay discussion board and no one there seems to know the answer.

I've emailed customer support at Ebay. I'll post here when they get around to answering my inquiry.

Well vendio's response is that we will have to eat the difference in the new charges. Here's a copy of the email I just received from them.

Hello there,

Thank you for your email. Your shipping calculator can only be
expected
to provide the price quoted to your buyers upon your creation of the
listing, and should that price subsequently change after the ad has
ended, you would have to "eat" any additional variations in the price
of
shipping unless you wanted to pass that on to your buyer, which you can
do from your checkout or postsale. The shipping calculator data is
updated by UPS whenever they have any changes in their pricing
structure. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thank you,

Ed

And here is the usual non-answer from Ebay with my original request, which as you can see, was not addressed at all in regard to WHEN it will change over. (I think Jessica may be a computer....hmmmm)

Hello Gerri,

Thank you for writing to eBay's Customer Support. From what you have
described in your email, I understand that you have some questions
regarding listing your item. My name is Jessica and I am happy to assist
you.

I can see that you have a question regarding the shipping calculator
showing the new postage raters within the new year.

I have taken the liberty to consult our eBay listing technicians
regarding this question and they were able to advise me that at this
time the shipping calculators rates will not change at this time. For
further information regarding the eBay shipping rates and services, feel
free to use this link:

I appreciate the opportunity to assist you Gerri. We are committed to
making your experiences at eBay pleasant and rewarding.

Warmest regards,

Jessica A.

Scheduling Your Listings

Message: Hello, I am trying to plan my listings for the first week of
January and need to know when the Ebay shipping calculator will change
over to reflect the new postage rates. I need to adjust my handling
charges on existing listings and schedule new ones to launch.
If I schedule listings on Jan. 1 which will end on Jan. 8 will the
calculator show the correct postage rates?
Thanks in advance,
Gerri L. Schroeder

This is my answer to hopefully reducing the confusion during the transition week. I plan on including this language in my auction listings during the first week of the new year. Thought it might be helpful to others.

ON OR AFTER STATED
Please note that the USPS postage rate hikes go into effect on January 8, 2005. Ebay's shipping calculator may not reflect the correct shipping cost until the date of the increase. This auction will end on or after January 8. The shipping cost stated in the auction description is correct.

Merry Christmas to all and best wishes for a prosperous New Year!

How about making your change right now. Simply adjust your shipping charge up slightly. Or do it in your handling charge. Then you will be covered when it really does go into effect.

It will also cover the people that are slow to pay. Meaning bid on your item before the price increase and send payment afterwards.
