Needing a way to search for old posts and information posted in past threads that would be helpfull in our Ebay businesses, for years we here at Vendio and before that Auctionwatch have requested and searched for a way to search the message center but with no luck.

During my time spent on the RT board a certain poster seemed to possess the ability to find old posts but claimed that she was just better at using key words in Google searches but many of us suspected otherwise. Of course she always denied knowledge of a better way to search and others supported her stance. I believe she witheld her knowledge and got support from others because of a childish need to feel superior.

On another board because of battles raging over people crossing over from Vendio to that board this person has now found herself in the position of defending herself from people of her same political stances and in some sort of an attempt to further defend herself she has inadvertently let the cat out of the bag and posted a link to a way to search Vendio.

It's about darn time.

I think it only fair to share this with ALL here and I hope it helps others to find information on past posts. I have not tried it out much yet. I wanted to get this posted first and let others try it out and see how it works.

Since being here I have learned alot about different stuff from the many knowledgable members and I am all too happy to return that favor and share whatever knowledge I have. You guys are the best and I hope this works because knowledge is something that should not be hoarded, it should be shared for all to be able to grow and excell.

Enjoy!

In her post, on that other board she also posted another link to a way to view old threads in the RT. I haven't yet figured out how it could help to further search here in the EO but I have decided to also include it and maybe someone else here that may possess more search code knowledge than me can figure that out but do share your knowledge with us if you can figure it out.

Jumping up and down!!!!! Yes! I tried it and found my favorite thread of all times, THE INFAMOUS VAN GOGH AUCTION, the 25 page saga that kept me addicted to Auction Watch back in 2000!

On a more practical note I need to find some threads about items I asked about earlier but have lost the notes I took at the time.

Thank you!

I went back to the search to find a thread on a china mark I asked about and now it does not seem to work for me. Did we all hit it at the same time? I'll try later.

Well that's prety dang spiffy. Thanks for the link. It's just a shame VENDIO can't provide us with the the search box for their own forum.

Photosensitive,
The same happened with me and I think it's a cookie problem. On my second search it brought up my first search. I am confident that we can all put our minds together to now find a way to make this work for all.

You might have to clear your cache between searches.

I had a hard time even opening this thread! Maybe all the old searches people are doing are clogging the system? LOL

I once had a link to a search that Vendio disabled - maybe they will do that to this one too

Thank you so much for that post. I have spent hours looking over pages for old posts, it worked just fine for me looking up some of my old questions.

Neglus, Vendio has no CONTROL over this one. The search function is coming from a site known as sneakydave.com and you can see this by placing your cursor on the link and the url will be displayed at the bottom of your browser page or at the top after clicking the link.

piinthesky, I'm afraid you are wrong about that.

Look at the source for the sneakydave page. Oh wait, it's not very long, I can just insert it here.

Fluff, that's from the sneakydave page but can you show me where that search function is here at Vendio? It could be that the sneakydave site is accessing an old search function that once existed here but no longer does but somehow sneakydave is able to refresh it and cause it to work again. I don't know.

Just be glad that there is now a way to search here after so many years of not being able to and hope that Vendio doesn't somehow put a stop to it.

I hope you haven't messed it up for everyone by posting that, Fluff.

fLuff's correct.

Vendio had a search feature all this time and we didn't know about it. Well beat me with a silly stick.

Why would they do that? They would have no reason to that I can think of. We are just using their search feature to find information on their site for Vendio/ebay related matters afterall.

Piinthesky.

That link was RECENTLY posted on the Ross Show by a poster with the name SneakyDave.

If you notice, this tool does not go back futher than several posts.

So you are hopping up and down for joy about a cat that's still in the bag!

LOL!

And furthermore, I've posted the link that goes back to the year 2000 several times on the RT.
It's simply based on the link that goes back a year...the one on the title page with the days changed in the link to a higher number.

Helen posted this in the RT. I usually use another method. She admits that she possesses an alternate search method. A search method that could probably benifit many here in the EO but she is keeping her knowledge to herself and a select few because of none other than political motivations.

Don't be fooled by her folks she has no intentions of benifiting anyone with her knowledge but herself and a select few. She possesses search knowledge that may benifit others but she ain't sharing.

ed; the last thing that I want is to turn this into a fight here in the EO because this is not a fight board. My motivation here is get some knowledge posted that will benifit everyone.

If that were true then how did Photosensitive find the old VAN GOGH thread from 2000? Your attempts to cover your tracks aren't working.

So you are hopping up and down for joy about a cat that's still in the bag!

And I guess it's going to stay there, huh?

PS, it is slower than mud, but working.

Piinthsky,

My "other method" is keeping good records. That's a necessity when posting with people who will lie about what is said and then refuse to back their statements up. My records would be of no use whatsoever to an Ebay user.

The Van Gogh thread was locked by the moderator (remember them?) on September 26, 2000. Lets see...2006 - 2000 = yea more than one year.

The Sneaky Dave tool only goes back a short period of time.

The Van Gogh thread was found on the link that goes back six years (if that was in fact an RT thread.)

I'll try to come up with a link to go back that far on this board...back in a few.

Ok but how did you do that? You are obviously keeping some of your search skills in reserve and that is the crux of my argument with you about sharing your knowledge, to the betterment of ALL.

Spill it finally, will ya?

The cat in that bag belongs to Schrodinger.

(My bet is that mike and sparkz will get this, but no one else. Surprise me.)

There's nothing mysterious about that last EO link or even very impressive. Hint: The clue is in the URL.

pi, I'm afraid I'm getting a little testy at your "We're ENTITLED to be spoonfed! You're holding out!" argument. There are web pages up the wazoo on HTML/httpd and many of them are very basic and easy to understand.

If you want to know something, bestir yourself to learn. Lord knows I try to teach stuff here but no one ever pays attention.

Fluff, I don't think there's anyone here that has tried to find a better search function/method more than me but I could be wrong. I've sent numerous emails to Vendio asking for information on it and started several threads to discuss it. I have also tried and failed using alternative search methods by changing codes in search functions and in urls.

One thing that we at the RT learned a long time ago was that helen seemed to always be able do searches to find posts from others while most of us were not able to do this and she always denied having knowledge of an alternative search method.

With this thread and the similar one that I posted in the RT it has been shown that she does in fact possess additional knowledge of an alternative search method.

As I stated in a post in that thread, saying essentially that we are a community here of people with a common cause and it behooves us to share our knowledge for the betterment of everyone. It is a philosophy that benifits everyone equally without reservations about political leanings and for one person to have knowledge that could benifit others here in our common cause but won't share it because of political motivations is just plain wrong.

Asking that person to share her knowledge is not expecting to be 'spoon fed'. It is asking to be treated with respect and for the betterment of the whole community.

If you can't see the philosophy of this, that way then I feel sorry for you.
