When eBay announced their ad partnership with Yahoo, most of the story pivoted on the strategic relationship and not so much on the effects on the eBay marketplace.

OMG! Ebay seems hell bent on self destruction! WTF! Taking people off the site - what are they thinking!!!?????? Why would Meg and Bill want to destroy ebay?? It sure seems like everything they do is towards that goal.
I thought when they announced the partnership we would start seeing the same kind of "Penile Enlargement" ads we saw here on Vendio - this is TOOOOOO MUCH!

I am pasting a post from the ebay store board to illustrate how one person actually used the Yahoo ads to draw people to his website AND persuade users NOT TO USE EBAY:

There is a raging thread on the PS board about this. Yesterday I ran a test Yahoo ad.....
This is to illustrate the absurdity.
All the ebay links, posting rules etc. can be circumvented with yahoo ads now. Heck you could advertise to sell positive feedback, sell as many gift cards as you like, market endangered species, sell police items, Viagra, pick a policy and you can skirt it now.
Ebay has made a big mistake they have let an outside entity onto ebay without any of the restriction that their "other advertisers", the sellers, have to deal with. Further they have 0% control on what is placed on the site.
The ads I placed cost .10-.30 a click far lower than an ebay ad with FVF or monthly fees. No fees allows me or another offsite seller running such ads to undercut the ebay store sellers on the same page. I could offer special discounts to ebay members or even attack ebay's weak points in the ads: "Don't Risk Buying on Ebay", "Avoid Unpleasant Surprises on Ebay", "No Waiting on Auctions", "Don't Trust an Ebay Seller to Deliver Before Christmas", "Avoid Ebay Fraud"," No Ebay Fees Means Lower Prices for You", "Avoid Paypal Hassles".....
I put this ad up in ten minutes yesterday to illustrate a point. There are much more creative/devious people out there who will use these ads in ways that we can not imagine yet. It is just plain stupid.

AND Isn't it against ebay's rules to send people OFF ebay for sales? Or should I say "Sell off ebay"!! HUMMMMMM Sounds like we should plan something soon.

This thread is cited in Ina Steiner's column on this subject today: http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m07/i19/s01

This is absolutely outrageous! Ebay can't seem to include all plurals in search results (it does for some keywords but not all), nor can it seem to fix the search function in stores, but it can add even more competition into the Ebay arena?! This makes absolutely no sense? Is this what ebay does with the millions (or is it billions at this point?) of dollars collected in seller ebay fees every year?

IF they are going to use us and our livelyhood for "test subjects" while they are performing theses tests, they ought to pay us.

Not sure if edits show as new so I am posting here too. If you REALLY want an ulcer, take a look at my addition to the second post above.

I see the links in the examples but I don't see them when I do ebay searches this morning. Has Ebay killed the code already? Or do I not see them because I have doubleclick cookies blocked, use Goggle toolbar pop-up blocker and have my security set to HIGH?
