It's probably nothing, but I noticed a hand drawn postmark on the back of a postcard. I looked closely at the stamp which appears to have been cancelled, but the stamp's cancel doesn't appear to be tied to the postcard. Complicating things, the card is heavily embossed in that area - and postmarks don't "take" well on embossed cards. My guess is that the cancel was drawn by the sender who affixed a used stamp in the stampbox, but not sure why anyone would do this. Is there a chance this went through the mail? I appreciate any help - just to satisfy my own curiosity!

I have run across some postcards from small towns where the stamp is cancelled by just a pen mark - there is no postmark. Perhaps the sender decided to draw a postmark?

I just checked and Greenville Ohio has a population of 13,000 - probably too big a town for a pen cancellation.

since and I think I am not too way off --the postcard are pretty old it is not unreasonable to have pen cancelation, I am betting the town was not that big years ago and was more like a rural PO. After all it was 1907 or there abouts and mail was not like today. Bet it even arrived on horseback. hehe
To this day I get mail that the stamp is not marked at all or anywhere on envelope either. LOL I recycle those stamps.
Here was an interesting site on 1 cent postcards history. some history

Would be more interesting if the cancel was from E Greenville (the town it is addressed to). That post office has been closed since 1914. I did find an article about hand cancels that said occasionally they were written out in long hand, but that doesn't explain why it looks like a recycled stamp.
