just heard on the cable news that the 'do not call' registry was formed 5 years ago, and all of us that registered our phone numbers there were reminded today that the phone numbers submitted to them were protected (so to speak) for 5 years. in order to be on the list again, we need to reregister there.

I thought this was permanent-why would I want these a-holes calling me again after 5 years?

Is it five years from the date you signed up? Don't think I did it right away.

from the website:

"How can I find out when my registration expires?

You can click on the Verify a Registration button any time to check your expiration date. Your registration will expire five years from your registration date. You may want to print the Web page with your registration date for your records."

My biggest problem with phone calls is that the woman that had my phone number 5 years ago still gives it out and her bill collectors harrass me. I get new calls for her everyday.

I've thought about doing that, but I might have the same problem, I had this problem with my last phone number before this one. It had belonged to a business. That was a pain too. It's almost like in the old days when you were on a party line.
