i was doing my maintenace regime to my computer this morning. that usually entails, 'cuz it works for me, first running AdAware, then Disk Cleanup, then check to see if it needs defragged.
when AdAware connected to the net to grab the (free) updated build, i happen to notice on the Lavasoft webpage, this note:
Note: Lavasoft will not issue new Definitions File updates or provide technical support after December 31, 2007 for Ad-Aware SE.
i guess i could (re)try spybot, but i always had a hard time deciphering or comprehending their instructional verbage.
all these 15 years of using a computer, and i'm still not a geek.
my present HP PC is about 5 years old, and we're all amazed how good it DOES run.

Too bad, I really love adaware. Fastest scans I've ever seen. Maybe I should have bought something from them?

I have always used the free version... and every 'update' (for the free version) would always take me to a main webpage, offering us to buy their supremo whatever from them, and i could always click that off, and use a free upgrade for us "free users" .... my take on it is that they will no longer be free, but that you can buy their software, downloadable.

my take on it is that the free is still free but the paid version they want to make sure you don't have a peer to peer version but a legitimate serial number.
