Have you seen anything about www.RevolutionMoney.com? They look legit and have significant funding and have seen some serious press and their founders look like they have the "right" background to know what they're doing.

If anyone is going to give PayPal a run for "our" money, it's going to be this group -- at least of those currently in play.

As I recall, RevolutionMoney was largely funded at startup by Steve Case, AOL's Founder.

PayPal is really entrenched in the online payment business. It is going to take a lot of effort and money to gain market share.

Would I accept RevolutionMoney payments? I doubt it, because doing so would eliminate the percentage bonus I receive from PayPal. Further, the majority of my customers use PayPal. And, I happen to enjoy the Money Market interest.

Yeah, Bill, I can see your point - but only insofar as that it's not logical.

Breaking it down:

Give up 1.5% to save more than that.

Add an "extra" form of payment and not remove currently accepted forms of payment - for fear that others might use it?

Have you used the IRS as a savings account as well? No offense, my brother does - having more taken out of each paycheck so that he gets a "refund" in April. He can't comprehend that its a "loan repayment" rather than a refund, but...

Just curious.

Pixiamom is exactly right.

Besides... RevolutionMoney? What is this, Red October? Will we peasants be storming the Winter Palace?

Pixia - I certainly don't count myself as an expert in this area, but I would expect that if it's possible (as I'm sure the money probably makes it worthwhile) Google and others with a financial interest might sue to gain access.

It's one thing to be right and small and hope for justice. It's truly another to be large (money) and "get" justice, right...?

I don't want to open up for question whether it's right or justified or even legitimate - but it's certainly possible.

I would expect eBay would fight until their last breath as I'm sure everyone realizes that PayPal is a cash cow for eBay and anything that pokes the cow costs them money.

Wayne: Nyet, comrade.

PayPal has a large and growing marketshare of retailer websites that have nothing to do with eBay. Apparently they are able to tweak the look-and-feel of some of those sites. I would tell you more but I am bound by an NDA due to my recent interview there.

I looked over the RevolutionMoney website. Same old tired marketing: "Designed for the way you live". Only heard that one about a dozen times before.

Here's what amazes me about such efforts. It's probably got at least a hundred million dollars behind it, right? So why couldn't they have hired talent that understands Web 2.0? If you want to succeed on the Web today your offering has to be fresh, catchy, viral and original. And preferably presented with a humorous approach.

The original PayPal (remember when it was free to use?) gave everyone $5 to sign up and $5 for every referral. Talk about viral.

Hee, hee. Just the laugh I needed. Good one! It's only December and already I've had by fill of winter (which hasn't even officially arrived yet). Can we not wait and attack the Spring Palace?

Wayne, It cost me over 100K to be trained so as to think logically. Logic doesn't enter into this. It is a business decision. A decision driven by the method by which my customers pay for their purchases.

RevolutionMoney was started by Steve Case in September.

I wouldn't expect ebay to allow the payment service. ebay is getting away with disallowing Google Checkout, so why would they allow any other big name competitor?

Perhaps RevolutionMoney will strike a partnership with one of the other big-name internet companies (AOL, Microsoft, Yahoo or Amazon)

Yahoo shopping has already paired up with Paypal.
Amazon has its own proprietary One Click.

They also have a large and growing number of retailers that no longer accept PayPal as form of payment because of their unsafe practices.

Do I think RevolutionMoney will compete with PayPal. Not unless someone sues eBay for being a monopoly.

Not all e tailers have their own merchant account to accept credit card ,thats why they choose Paypal.
I have switched from merchant account to Paypal to save me some money-minimum fee, statement fee, annual fee, authorisation fee ,chargeback fee .
So far I have no problem .

Oh, please.

I'm talking about sites like Toys R Us, not Grandma and Grampa's Anteek Store.

Fluffy - he said 'eTAILORS' -- so it wouldn't be a mom -n- pop "anteek" store -- more like a mom -n- pop "dress shop" - right?

I have not been to Toy R Us website, but I have come across mail order sites such as Sierra trading which accept Paypal & Google checkout.

By the way, should I take it as a compliment when someone thinks I am a 'HE' ??
After making 2509 posts and someone still think I am a 'he',we all need something stronger than eggnog, may be Mao Tai.

Welcome to World History Week here on Jeop...um, Vendio. One day we're storming the Winter Palace and the next having cocktails with Chairman Mao.

I thought the same thing, Fluff.

If it were a "My Way" Tai it would be with a different "Chairman," huh?
