I have to eliminate Saturday shipping so that I can spend some quality time with my family. Or, list new items in my stores.

Who limits their shipping days to Monday thru Friday? And, has the limit affected your sales?

We don't have a choice in Canada as our Post Office is not open!

We do have our small sub-offices in Drug stores etc. they will accept mail but it goes nowhere until Monday.

We don't have door-to-door delivery in most places and we only have one delivery a day...many years ago it used to be 2.

Canada Post provides nothing to us for free..like boxes.

They also do not pick up mail from our houses

We do not really suffer from it but it is a nuisance on long weekends when we have to wait from Friday until Tuesdays to mail items.

I don't have stated shipping days. I tend to ship five out of seven days but not the same five days all the time. I dropped off some stuff Saturday as we were on our way out of town, but we have a large mail-processing facility here, so I just take it to the loading dock in the back.

If I really needed to ship, I'd drive the 20 miles to SFO (San Francisco International Airport) where there is a postal station that is pretty much always open, even Sundays and holidays, though I think they close at midnight.

Complaints and praise about shipping are pretty much equally subjective. I didn't try any harder on the one I got praised for than the one I got bitched out about, so you can't take either seriously.

I ship every day, including Sunday, 99% of my packages can be dropped in the mail box outside the PO which is only a few minutes away.

Even that won't get me 5.0 on stars. I don't think a 5.0 is possible. I just bought a 1 year subscription to Discover Magazine with free S&H. The seller, theonlineauctionblock, is a power seller, sells only magazine all free S&H & has a 4.7 star rating. Now how in the hell do figure that. Something is really wrong about those stars when you can't even get a 5.0 with free S&H.

"Something is really wrong about those stars when you can't even get a 5.0 with free S&H."

S/H is free for their magazine listings but if you look at their recent history you will see that they have sold other things and that they have charged s/h for those things.

Their s/h fees for the items that I looked at seemed quite reasonable to me but buyers are allowed to have their own opinions.

I ship on Saturdays if I am not at an auction which is easier in the winter. The rest of the year I can usually be found in my camp chair in the front row outside (or in a tent) at an auction about an hour and a half before it starts. I am amazed at the people who attent auctions (even dealers) who don't take boxes and newspapers or bubble wrap. I always end up handing out newspapers.

I ship on Saturday if I have no other option. I prefer not to because of the volume of people at the post office but if I can't get there on friday then Sat is necessary. I don't have regular shipping days either. I ship when the packages are paid for. Fortunately the post office is only about 3 blocks from my home and I try to arrive at other than peak times.

Shipping on saturday is a hassle but just part of the business.

My main shipping day is Saturday. DH helps me and I can get it done twice as fast as when I do it myself. I prepare the list and envelopes and pull the cards. He erases the prices, slips in plastic sleeves, seals envelopes and puts on postage. All this "quality time" together has been great for our marriage! My shipping time star is 4.7 and unless I am willing to change, I guess I can expect it to stay there.

How great you have help! It would be a lot faster and as a side effect you do get to spend time together.

I ship M-F. No Saturday or Sunday. I have a 4.9 and a 4.8. IMO, communication is the key. Let them know when it will ship & when it ships (with dc if you use it). I use the Scan form so my packages show they were entered into the mail stream on a certain day at a certain time. I let people know that even tho eBay says first class can get there in 2 days it make take a week.

I ship on Saturday. Since the postman checks everyday to see if I have a package, I rarely go to the post office. I've stopped selling internationally, so I only expect to go to the PO if I need stamps.

I have it stated in my auctions that I don't ship on Sat or Monday mainly because I'm busy with family and don't want to worry about waiting around for a Sat pickup or getting packages ready for Monday pick up.

The postman picks up every day from my home as long as I make a request on USPS site. My postman will bring me forms if I forgot to order them. I never go to the post office anymore.

A few years back before they offered free home pickup I use to ship out only on Fridays and I had to pay 12.95 for a pick up but then I had over 40 packages a week so it beat bring them to the PO like I use to when I first started selling.

I can't worry about the star rating because we will never know how someone is thinking or how they feel about the transaction even when they give us a Positive FB.

I make money on Ebay so that's all I care about. When I see I'm not making money then I will figure out something else to do.

Our post office just installed an automated shipping kiosk, with 24 hours a day availability. Once sold and paid, I want stuff out of my sight ASAP, but make it clear that I am on the road a lot, so don't promise immediate anything.

I ship Mon. - Fri., next day after payment. I spend time with family or on household projects (we live in a 112 year old house) on Sat. and Sun. and try not to work on "sales".

I rarely ship on Saturday, too many amateurs at the PO.

The only package I had go "missing" and never found was put into one of the 24 hour kiosk. Would never use that again!!

I ship 6 days a week.

However my policy is "I ship everything the next business day after I receive clear payment"

That way, I am I am not obligated to ship Saturday . One weekend every month we go to the beach -- so that means one Saturday a month - no shipping.

In Portland, all post offices are closed on Saturday except the airport and postal franchises. I scurried to make the 2:30 last pick up of the neighborhood postal franchise only to find they locked up early on a whim. Luckily, USPS kept to their schedule and I was able to hand off my 150 shipments to them truck-side. That left only the whiner who insisted I buy insurance for his $40 postcard that didn't get shipped.

...of the 24 hour kiosk. Would never use that again!...

Ours is right next to the counter, and packages drop into a bin right there, so no more danger of getting lost than if handed over the counter.

Re kiosk: Just superstitious now. Ours is in the lobby. No one can get into the bin after it drops down, but I also worry about heavy items being dropped onto fragile ones.

How do you get to the kiosk when the PO is closed? That is why ours is in the lobby. The lobby is open 24 / 7 for people who have PO boxes, etc. But the counter area is locked when the PO is closed.

I have never shipped regularly on Saturdays and have never seen a problem or had a compliant because of it. My DSR's (knock wood) are all 4.9 with a 4.8 on shipping cost.

As said earlier, communication is the key.

While I don't make a shipping time commitment on the auction, my payment received notice states that "We have received your payment and your order will be shipped within 24 hours (Monday-through-Friday)...".

If it is a holiday weekend, I edit it to read "...(Monday-through-Friday except holidays)".

Occasionally I will ship on Saturday, but that is only if I happen to be there before it closes at noon, the package is ready and the stars are all in alignment.

...How do you get to the kiosk when the PO is closed?..

Our lobby is also now open 24/7; security gate just comes down to the counter, so kiosk next to counter is accessible. Can't be superstitious about things like that; since I have lost a package sent UPS, and a package handed over counter, what other options would I have left?

I agree no need to be superstitious, just it is the ONLY package that has ever gone unaccounted for. I have had some items damaged, but that is the only one that vanished!!

zippy, I acquiesce. I looked at the sellers past 30 days sales & there are a few that were not subscriptions. A lithograph, framed, went for 9.99 with a 15.17 S&H.

Probably caused a ding on the stars even though the litho was 23 x 18 & had to be packed carefully.

A framed 23 x 18 litho for $15.17 was quite probably a financial loss for the seller. Assuming of course that it was well packed.

I saw the litho too. Shipping would have been approximately $20 to my location and I agree that is low for something that large with glass (I hate hate hate hate HATE packing glass) but like you I know what it takes to pack and ship such things. I know the costs involved too. Buyers are not required to know these things and we can't expect them to behave as though they do because we will be disappointed.

I'm still trying to find a seller who ALWAYS and ONLY ships free and still has dings to that star. I'm beginning to believe that such a seller is a true eBay urban myth.

I ship on Saturday most of the time. Only times I don't is if we have a family event planned and even most of the time I can have my packages ready the night before so all I need to do is drop them off.

I love online postage. It's a great time saver.
