If you have automatic updates turned on in Firefox -- and likely most people do, since it's the default -- you may have been automatically upgraded to Firefox 3 recently.

Many people are finding that websites that formerly loaded instantly take 3-5 seconds or more to load with Firefox 3.

You can still revert to Firefox 2.0.0.16, though no one seems to know how much longer it'll be available. Get it here:

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.16/win32/en-US

You can also disable automatic updating by going to Tools > Options > Advanced > Updates

Most websites load as fast as they did before (I am noticing some slowness on the Vendio listing form but not sure if that's a Firefox problem or Vendio problem) but I am seeing more crashes than before. If you disable updates and Firefox fixes the problems, won't you miss the fixes?

Firefox 2 won't ever be updated, so it's not an issue.

As far as security fixes go, Firefox 3 won't protect you from the Sagipsul virus, which is about to become a huge problem.

Oh man - just looked up the sagispul virus and it looks very nasty! Is there a way to block it?

I just installed FF PhishTankSiteChecker add-on. Do you think that will help?

Neglus, I honestly don't know. I've heard some people are loading up on antivirals.

It is a *very* nasty virus. It disables your XP firewall. The worst is that once you have it it refuses to allow you to connect to antivirus sites. Some people have been forced to completely reload Windows.

What I would do right now is download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, because once you have the virus it's going to be difficult to get anti-malware programs. And I would be careful about browsing indiscriminately on a Windows machine. Macs should be fine.

Done - thanks. I found pages and pages of recent (as in this weekend) infections of this nasty virus and it sounds like you can't even work on an infected computer because of the pop-ups and it is very difficult/impossible to remove. I hope everyone else takes heed as well.

Hi fLufF,

OMG!!! I am totally experiencing this situation. Firefox automatically updated itself and that is when my problems began.

thank you fLufF for your computer savvy.

I get that Sagipsul virus pop up on a new window. It is awful attempting to work. My computer is so slow it feels like I am working on an old 486.

so if I go do the reverting back to Firefox 2.0.0.16, things would fall back into place???

I have been talking to my son over the phone on my problem but the last thing I heard from him was that he was going to wipe out my hard drive & reinstall all my software. BUT I have to wait for him to get his butt to my home to do it(he is a work-a-holic)

Thank you again, fLufF for the info. I was ready to head over the library to work as their computers are a hell of lot faster than mine at the moment.

Mama - I think you misunderstood Fluff.

Firefox 2 will not get rid of the Sagipsul virus. From what I read, I think your son is on the right track.

OH Crap!! I thought that once I went back to the firefox 2, then it would all click back to normalcy. so that virus is difficult to remove? The only way is to reinstall windows??

You can Google ""sagispul virus" and look at all the threads with removal instructions. I don't know which ones work and which ones don't.

This sounds very much like a virus pixiamom had earlier this Fall. Perhaps she can offer suggestions when she signs on.

If you haven't already downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, try downloading it on another computer and install it on yours via a flash drive. Otherwise, your son's offer to wipe your computer clean and reinstalling the OS and programs may be the only option left.

I found pixiamom's thread http://www.vendio.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=684528. I guess hers was a different virus.

See if you can download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program. You may not be able to download it on your computer because the virus has blocked your ability to download AV and Malware tools, but it's worth a shot.

Thank you Neglus. I will do the Virus search for removal info. I will attempt it myself rather than wait for my son. I need to work today listing on Ebay plus I am a moderator for our local Freecycle group so it has been difficult to attempt anything on this computer. Like I said it is like working on the old 486. I have been real close to throwing it out my patio door.

Sorry that I wasn't clear; I was just pointing out that even though Firefox 3 is supposed to be more secure it won't protect you from the current threat. This really should be two threads: one for Firefox and one for Sagipsul.

pixiamom had sage advice. One of our computers was infected. We got the anti-malware off the Web on a different computer and ran a network cable between the two. Flash drive should work too.

I'm sure your son knows this but he needs to run the anti-malware in safe mode. We had to do it five times before it was completely clean. It took about four hours.

I don't think so. It installed very quickly and even preserved my bookmarks.
