Just curious to find out if anyone is regularly using Ali for purchases. I have considered using my account, but am concerned about all of the scams running like crazy there.
I've gone as far as read horror stories of people using the escrow service and not getting their money back.
Just wanting some input from other users.

This is what I am reading:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=994068
http://www.worldlawdirect.com/forum/off-topic-messages/34019-alibaba-heaven-scammers-s.html

I also find it quite interesting how a very very large percentage of companies are run by young cute Chinese women. It seems like a perception of innocence to me. You want to trust the innocent looking young girl, but you are really getting scammed by the Chinese mafia.

For every job in China, there are at least 100 applicants, many young folks out of college cant find job but they are PC literate,so they could be just reselling what factories make.
If you know someone who works there,or know someone who steal or have access to remnants , rejects or stolen goods, you can be a cyber entrepreneur.
They are not willing to refund so Alibaba means nothing, they can always sign up with another ID like their mother's or brother or friend!
Your money may have already been spent to meet rent, grocery or medicine.
Small sellers USA buying from small sellers China is a bad idea,UNLESS YOU KNOW THE PERSON.

If I'm reading this correctly Alibaba and the 40 thieves have been replaced by Alibaba and the 400 million thieves?

There are different ways to look at this situation like the glass is half full or half empty:
you want a steal of a bargain and you want someone across the ocean to work for nothing so you can sell on Ebay at a meager profit, and you are disappointed because they sent you a piece of junk!
Well, like they said, you get what you paid for,you paid them almost nothing and you get nothing in return.

I ordered two items. One was received while I was in Europe for three weeks and sent back because I didn't claim it(USPS mistake). I got my other item but it is a piece of junk. Alibaba has been hounding me to confirm delivery of the first item (said it was resent in August but I haven't gotten it) so they can release funds to the seller.

Order 3 cell phones, received all 3. Sold 1 and covered cost of the 3 plus a profit. Unforutately, I ran out of time to redeem my other coupons or I would have ordered 2 more.

Good for you, max! Unfortunately some of us "faired" less well, but it was an inexpensive lesson.
Maybe if I'd ordered a fairing I would have fared better.

This may be an odd question and I am not meaning to be rude to the previous owners of either site BUT with all that there is out there about Alibaba why would Vendio and Auctiva who are both well respected Companies...sell out to them?

i think its sorta like looking at ebay - you may think, as a buyer, very highly of ebay if you buy nice stuff at a good price. or you might think less of ebay because you bought cheap stuff and were disappointed it was cheap.
they are just the companies that provide the ability for these buyers and sellers to meet one another and you cant judge them based on what their buyers and sellers do alone - but rather on how their services to connect the two parties together work.
in ebays case they take pretty good care of the buyer for the most part, as does alibaba it seems since they dont even pay the seller until the buyer confirms receipt of the goods.

otter- hope all is good in the Great White North. to answer your question, it was all about money and timing.
basically, if you had a sinking ship and the chinese mafia threw you a life preserver, i doubt anyone would turn away from it. the same for vendio.
vendio was moving away from eBay and towards vendio stores. either way, their auction services were trending towards becoming obsolete. if you closely watched the improvements eBay made over the recent few years vs. the improvements made by vendio you see that ebay was not only catching up, but surpassing vendio with free image hosting, quality checkout systems, shipping calculators, listing tools, etc. many features vendio offered are now offered through ebay or are banned by ebay (redirect checkout, alternative payment methods, etc).
i'm sure alibaba threw a lifeline to vendio and they took it. i know i would have probably done the same thing. i often wonder if vendio was hoping that ebay would buy them out and integrate their services.

Shag,
as an old timer I can tell you years ago Vendio came up with an idea of siphoning business away from Ebay,it allows sellers to have a Vendios store so Ebay bidders will come and pay for their winning bid and then found all the stuff they see on Ebay are neatly lined up in Vendio stores and start buying direct.
Ebay caught that and disallowed any links which will take some Ebay bidders outside Ebay.
Vendio is not the only which is thinking of doing it,Rubylane and COLLECTOR online are all going to do it.
Too bad Ebay pulled the plug!

Well, of course you always 'follow the money'..that I understand but if the thinking was to have the sellers who use Auctiva and Vendio buy from the Sellers at Alibaba...it obviously just ain't gonna work based on all I am reading.

Well, how would a foreign company knows when a seller shows his ware and an impressive customer list?
What matters is that these US entrepreneurs get their sweet reward in the end,Paypal founder did well,he is now running a hedgefund or is it private equity?

I used one coupon for an item that cost me 95 cents in the end but I never got it. I'm sure it would have been junk anyway so I didn't even want to take the time report it.
