Does anyone else find them stupid and redundant??

I listed a doll in the category Dolls - Antique - Pre 1930- Bisque - German

Here are the "Item Specifics" it wants me to fill out and gets annoyed with me if I don't.

UPC!!! Really

Country of Manufacture: Hello!!

Other times I am listing in a china and glass category specific to say, Noritake, one of the item specific is BRAND!!

Am I missing something here?? They send me emails if my item is missing ITEM SPECIFICS, but really. They seem to either be redundant or irrelevant!!

Almost every item I list if I pick a vintage or antique category it wants the UPC. They don't have any UPCs if they are an antique.

Seems a waste of time in most cases.

Tell me about it!!
Vintage jewelry is the worst for me. Under costume jewelry - they want to know the metal, the theme, the color, the shade of the color and it goes on and on.
What used to take 2 minutes to list is now 5 minutes.
I feel like doing what many sellers do - see photos for details. DONE

I know - what a pain in the rear end. I have this lovely message in my "Selling Reminders" on My eBay: "To increase exposure, add required/recommended item specifics to 961 listings."

It's only 961 because I left most of my postcards at home and took them off the market for the winter. Does this mean they will hide them?

I list a lot of Mid-Century Modern items. There are 2 possible generic categories for straight up MCM:

Antiques>Periods&Styles>Mid-Century Modernism

Collectibles>Vintage,Retro,Mid-Century>then a list of decades, Bakelite, Plastic, Unknown

The last one seems more redundant and out of place with 4 decades listed among Bakelite & Plastic. This goes without including all the other categories something might fit into other than those.

Does anyone even search by category any longer?

shag: that is my question, also. I always just do a search with keywords. Categories seem redundant let alone those stupid "item specifics."

I laugh at the Item Specifics. The only one for many of my categories is, "Country of Origin".

They claim that Item specifics help in search, but I think that applies for things like cell phones and electronics that are feature rich.

It's not like item specifics are going to pop up in keyword searches, just in the filtering menus.

Just a reminder to anyone using Global Shipping...you MUST put in the Country of Origin Item specific. It is required on many items to Export/Import to another Country.

Ebay has been relying more on 'item specifics' to aid in search,it has been like this for years !
Country of manufacturing is needed for GSP to calculate customs duty due to various trade treaties existed bewteen /among different countries.
Brand is good for folks who search for specific brands.

Lost, the brand for the most part is in the category & it should certainly be in your title. Many times it asks you for a brand when you have listed in a category of mixed lot.

It asks for a UPC when you list an antique.

If they want these "specifics." Make it appropriate for the category.

so if there is no UPC with a piece of antique, what happens to the listing?
