I have been making my own lamps using recycled glass and use ebay's variations for my different wiring types - hardwire or plug in. I just added a new variation for buying them in quantities of 3 to offer a discount. The problem I have found is that I don't get any variations for shipping to match the variations with multiple quantities.
This is only an issue for me with International because I offer free USA shipping anyways and because it is electrical, I don't expect to see many international buyers.
I'm a bit surprised there isn't a variation setting for that. I realize I can always just set up a discount for each additional item. I haven't checked yet, but can you set parameters for the discounts? For example, can you offer a discount after the person purchases 3 instead of each additional?
I have also noticed when buyers purchase multiples, particularly for international, there is no real way to address box sizes. I can't remember if it overcompensates or remains constant, but it is always incorrect. For example, one item is 12" cubed, but two would be 24 x 12 x 12. I may actually be able to ship both in a smaller box than that, but not two in a 12" cubed.

On Yahoo shopping,a shop can set shipping according to the order dollar amount or weight.
can you make your buyer put the items in his shopping cart and ask you for an invoice, then you can figure how much is shipping according to what he has in his shopping cart
