sales have been slow, so I decide to put specific items on sale. Many have "Best Offer" on. I set the sale at 20% off.

Suddenly I am flooded with several offers, not even close to reasonable. $200 item on sale at $160, offer = $12.95. $95 item on sale at $76, offer = $30.

If these people only knew the red flag signal this says about them, they wouldn't bother. It tells me they are cheap, and will likely complain about the item they receive once it arrives even if I was willing to sell it for their ridiculous offer.

I consider this an opportunity to expand my "Block Bidder" list. [ edited by shagmidmod on Jul 16, 2014 08:52 AM ]

it costs them nothing to make low ball bids,it is just the cost of their time, and they consider their time to be free.
It is like playing electronic game!
Some sellers may cave in,say if the seller is selling her own personal collection or inheritance and their cost is low, even with a low ball bid, they are not losing money.
There are many new sellers on Ebay and they seem to be strapped, needing to sell to pay their bills and we thought the economy has recovered or on the road to recovery.
For example,a new seller sold $5k worth of goods, and Ebay will only release $15 from each payment to pay for shipping labels, but this seller sold most of his items to overseas buyers and shipping for each item is way over $15,he is frustrated,on one hand,Ebay and the buyers expect him to ship fast,on the other hand Ebay does not trust him enough to release the fund.
There are many cases like this on Ebay these days.

Since we are talking slow sales, why is sales so slow these days?
I heard AMZN sales is going gangbuster, and home sales are rising, and car sales are robust.but our sales have gone to the gutters!
If I list 20 listings selling items marked down 50% with or without free shipping,I will sell 3-4 items.
Is there anyone doing well these days?
Please speak up !

Shag it is true the low ballers are the worst after the sale. They just keep coming back for more and complain the most.

Mpcomp, sales are slow because eBay has created a hostile sales environment and coupled with the fact that eBay whizzed on googles leg and tried to tell them that it was raining hasn't helped.

Last night I ran across my sales for July 2011 and I had 5 days with single digit sales. This year I will be lucky to hit 5 days with double digit sales.

I was always under the impression external search engine like Google does not matter much as most Ebayers go straight to www.ebay.com,BUT it turns out external search does make a difference.
The reason I assume most come straight to Ebay is because most of my buyers are registered with Ebay and have poistive feedbacks in the hundreds if not thousands?
It would be interesting to see what this Xmas like?
Ebay just announced earnings.

It figures eBay would take the cheap way out. I always hoped for a more robust media campaign. I don't remember the last time I saw an advertisement. Of course, I don't remember seeing advertisements for Etsy either.

Shag...why did you leave the Best Offer on if you were putting them on sale? Far better to take the Best Offer off the listings for the duration of your Markdown Manager Sale then maybe you wouldn't have to add so many people to your BBL!

Actually I have never minded getting a low offer, it is better than no offer at all.

I just make a Counter Offer and put a note that says I am unable to accept their offer but hope that they will find my Counter Offer acceptable.
There are just a few people that I never hear from again but far more that 'see the light' and accept my Counter.
Why would you assume that people who try to get a bargain are going to be trouble?
