As I have predicted....

"Sellers will be responsible for return shipping when there’s an issue with the item or the item wasn’t as described."

"By the 2015 holiday season, all eligible domestic returns on eBay will be hassle-free returns. You can opt in to hassle-free returns today to get these additional benefits right away."

"Any time you receive a return request you don’t agree with, you can ask eBay to step in and help. Based on the information provided and the buyer’s purchase history, we will do what we can to resolve the issue. Note, however, that if the case is found in the buyer’s favor, it will still count as a defect—and will count toward your defect rate and percentage of cases closed without seller resolution."

How lovely. I'm sure there are more goodies hidden in there, I just quit reading it. I'm already on my way out the eBay door. It's a shame because these new updates only make it more costly for buyers.

Interesting. I sure don't see any "additional benefits" for the sellers.

I think Ebay does not want too many small sellers on Ebay, especially those with no merchandise.
Just think what happens if you use Walmart as dropshipper and your buyer returns the item back to you with you paying return shipping?
Then you have to return the item back to Walmart,is there a return date? not 90 days?

Look on the positive side,it is one way of weeding out the bad sellers.

Oh yeah, this is a great idea for sellers.

Recent transaction, very nasty email from a buyer about an antique doll dress. This dress was fabulous. She claimed not as described. I said, "Oh my, please return for a full refund including all shipping" Did not hear from her again for 12 days. Figured she had been mistaken, perhaps it was another dress that was nasty. I mean this lady in her first email said the dress was ripped, looked like a dog had ripped it apart, etc. Finally get an email that she has been "ill" before I have a chance to reply, she opens a case against me. She has already threatened neg FB, etc. I once again, say, SEND IT BACK!! (no caps)

Receive the dress back, it is pristine as described, I refund money like I said I would. Case is dropped automatically since I refunded.

I resell dress, exactly as before. Sells for more. Glowing FB!!

Original lady leaves neutral FB, item not as described. WTH!!

Oh yeah, this is going to be fun. I am just liquidating inventory. When things are gone, I am done!

Great story. You should respond to it by pointing out the item number of the item that sold and you received great feedback.

I'm really sick of this BS that eBay has allowed. No worries though, I am close to done as well. No need or time for the headaches of following stupid rules that tilt the balance against me. I'm no longer my own boss.

Ebay continues to let anyone everyone sells on Ebay, they dont answer emails, they dont ship and they dont even have the merchandise,
so the rest of us have to put up with more rules, why cant they be more selective on who can sell on Ebay?
Just today someone said a Chinese seller copied all her listings and pictures and links?
I can just see Ebay reporting how many listings they have on Ebay, when in fact we just copy from each other?or Walmart or Target?
I just marked down many of my items,I am getting out of this business.

shag, I had already responded to the nasty FB or I would have done that. Also, when people attack me like that I lose my confidence. I worry about every transaction. "Did I describe it properly?" "Was it really..." etc.

I was tempted to email her and tell her, but I said, "Let it go, let it go."

The aggravation is not worth it. The rewards are no longer there.

dont waste your time arguing with those buyers,or asking Ebay to remove feedback, the average wait time on the phone is 44 minutes.
Talk about self inflicted wounds, urging everyone anyone to sell

Shag - how are you doing on Esty?
mpcomp - I had the same thing happen to me a few years back. It was a Reel to Reel so the shipping was high. Buyer even said he took it to a repair shop and they couldn't fix it.
I got it back and it worked fine so I resold it for almost $100 more and the buyer was delighted.
You just have to think sometime - am I crazy or is it them??

You mentioned ETSY,I have something to tell you folks and give me your thoughts-
A friend of mine never turnd down a great deal on gold coins,he collects gold coins.
An Etsy seller claimed to be happily retired with her hubby and runs a shop selling used coffee pot, cushions etc, then she started selling gold coins and Swiss watches.
She claimed 13 of her Eagle gold coins come from her father who past away and one of the swiss watches is hers.
All her pictures are superb, description good and buyer left her good review.
She sold 36 items including 13 gold coins and 3 swiss watches and received only 7 reviews.
none of the 7 review come from watch or coin buyers.
She does not accept Paypal only credit card via Etsy.
My friend bought several gold coins from her ,amount to a few thousand dollars ,paid with his cc late July.
She said she is going back to the hospital for her fifth back surgery but will ship before she leaves.
She said she had a bad accident 2 years ago and suffered nerve damage in her hands, fingers and feet ,2 full kneecap replacements and 4 back surgery and in wheel chair.
So on SAturday August 1,she uploaded tracking at 7 am showing USPS has received notice of electronic shipping, placed her shop on vacation.
My friend started tracking using her DC and no progress, not even USPS scanned that they receive the package?
days and days gone by and no progress in tracking,so he asked ETsy IF HE CAN open a case early and they said work with the seller.
Finally some young clerk called him and said she does not have a button to push so she can use to let him file the case early, and she is really too grean to know what she is talking about.
He waited 14 days to open a case, then the seller responded saying she came back from the hospital, she is an eBAY SELLER with 3000 feedback and the package was shipped.
Then she said it was insured with U-PIC and she has to wait 2 more weeks to file for insurance .
Then she said USPS claimed the package is out there somewhere and she will file claim now with U-PIC as it is heavily insured.
Now my question is -
is she really disabled >in wheel chair and nerve damage and all that when her emails and her pictures and her shop give the impression of an able person?
Why has no one who bought watches and gold coins have left her any feedback?
She does not accept PAYPAL,being an Ebay seller she must know buyer can file dispute the same day payment made while with credit card, she has 45 days to respond. Is that why she does not accept Paypal? or she has a problem with Paypal and she cannot accept PAYPAL?
will U-PIC approve her claim, she would need the buyer signature to submit the insurance form and will the buyer go along with her, will U-PIC pay her claim if USPS tracking shows it has never receive the package?
If she does not have these 13 gold coins and 2 watches, then she has collected 5 figures and now what?
The Etsy clerk does not know,Etsy is very slow in responding to fraud,Etsy will deposit your sales proceeds in your bank account in a few days whether you ship or not?
ETSY is doing very well, selling over 100,000 items a day, thats what I heard or $100,000 a day,how can it be so naive when it comes to fraud?
comments please.
My friend is still waiting t o hear from her and from ETSY and the tracking is still not scanned by USPS

lost- no time to waste, call the credit card company and put a dispute on it. Pretty simple. It would put Etsy on the hot seat to get it resolved.

ebabestreasures- Etsy is doing pretty well. I've been so busy this summer I haven't had time to check the stats, but I am processing 15ish per week there vs. 2-5 items on eBay.
I'm just trying to stay on top of my job, shipping, moving our small warehouse space, selling the van, finding a car. I still have to file my taxes for 2013. Ouch! Thankful for extensions. Whew!

Not me,my friend has open a case with Etsy.
See the way it works is that if he goes to his cc company and file a chargeback,it will hit Etsy and Etsy or the seller has 45 days to deal with it ,if it loses,it wil face a chargeback fee.
But if he opens a case with etsy, etsy wil deal with it without the cc company involved,I think
Etsy prefers it this way.
My friend thinks dealing with Etsy is better as it will move faster??
If Etsy cant recover the money from the seller,Etsy has to reach into its pocket and pay him (or may be all the 13 gold coin buyers and 3 watch buyers).
This is what I dont understand, why does Etsy merrily deposit the sales proceeds in seller bank account without verifying if the item has been shipped?

SHAG,
On second thought, may be my friend should file chargeback if he does not hear from Etsy next week,Etsy is very very slow.
Bill,
Etsy is doing very well,I see people listing high end jewelry every day,I am a jewelry freak so I windowshop daily on Etsy.
I read somewhere they sell 100,000 items a day or $100,000 a day.

For 5 figures this is what I would do.

1. File a claim with Etsy
2. File a claim with the CC company
3. Talk to a lawyer (usually free for first 30 minutes).
4. try talking to the local prosecutor in the area the seller lives and see if he will file fraud charges. Or have an attorney where she lives find out what is going on.

open up with all guns. Bury Etsy with issues, bury the apparent crooked seller with issues.

No, it does not always work, but at least they pay for the fraud in worry and other issues.

The $5 figures is an estimate based on the watches and gold coins she sold, and is spread among several buyers.
Unlike Paypal,Etsy can deposit into seller bank account but it can also take from seller bank account,of course she could close her bank account.
This is scary, if ETSY cannot get the money back,it will be look at a $5 figures loss, plus chargeback fee.
Etsy is doing well,it sells $200,000 worth of merchandise daily and they do have telephone support now,if they onlt train them to deal with fraud !
It seems more and more of these crimes are not committed by professional crooks but ordinary citizens who need money, they found a way to steal in cyberspace, instead of maxing out their credit cards or borrow from sharks, they post pictures of items they dont have, any one can right click and copy pictures of golden eagle coin, bars, buillion,Rolex watches and get a short term interest free loan to tie you over for 14-30 days.

My biggest challenge with Etsy are the returns.

I am getting numerous return requests. Not because the item is bad or defective, but because the buyer ordered the wrong size and wants to exchange, or changed their mind altogether.

I have offered free shipping with some of my items, so this creates a dilemma for me. Nobody has balked yet, but I do explain that I cannot offer free shipment on that replacement order.

I have never charged anyone more than 50 cents additional for shipping, but after today I have changed that.

I had a woman who ordered an item, a day after I shipped it she decided she wanted a different size. So, I explained I would charge her $6.00 to ship the 2nd package. No problem, she obliged and all was good. She ordered another one from me last week, and now wants to return it, not because there is something wrong, but she bought it to go with another item she had, and she decided to return that item and no longer needs my item.

I just went and changed my return policy to charge exchanges a $2.00 handling fee + the 2nd shipping + the difference in cost of the item.

I also added a refund policy that will charge them original cost of shipping + $5.00.

If they want to pay it, so be it. I just don't have time to handle 2-3 returns a week for 20 items sold.
