Item purchased on 9/1. Shipped on eve of 9/2. Tracking indicates it was processed 9/3 locally and was sent on its way to the east coast. Item was shipped 1st class mail.

According to eBay/USPS it should have arrived on Saturday. I'm a bit surprised by that claim for USPS from Portland to Philly. Anyhow, today is Monday and it has not arrived so the buyer opens an item not received claim with the comment, "I'm hoping the item will arrive by tomorrow September 9, 2014 at the latest. Thank you."

This whole new system is really annoying. So, I get a claim opened on me, this goes against me, even though I processed it like I was supposed to do. Maybe I'm overreacting as I'm not used to this new Nanny system eBay has created.

You are not alone.
A seller uses GSP for intl shipping and buyers often ask for combined shipping,so an Ebay rep suggested she cancels the listings and relist them ,she did that with no problem, but now she is getting defects for cancelling orders!
She is no longer top rated and if she keeps doing this, she will be restricted forever.
All these idiot rules are self inflicting,Ebay asks anyone everyone to come and sell, and then come up with new rules to catch all the abuses, scams and nonsense.
How does a new seller get around restrictions and withholding of payments ?
Well, one seller said he takes Propay ,no Paypal, when the buyer clicks on the Propay link,Propay said no such account.
So buyer asked seller and seller said give me your email address, and I will send you a Paypal invoice.
By doing so,he is avoiding Ebay withholding his Paypal payment he needs to pay his dropshipper.
All his listings are dropshipped, and his dropshipper would not ship until he is paid and if Ebay withhold his payment,he cant pay his dropshipper and round and round we go.
I am often amazed how smart some of these sellers are, including those who copied pictures from Walmart and list them on EBAY?

It's pretty obvious that some of the customer service people don't know what causes a defect.
If you talk to two different CS people, you are likely to get 2 different answers.
If they don't understand this new defect issue, how are the sellers suppose to understand?
I couldn't cancel a transaction (long story) but I couldn't ship it either. I was sent this email by one CS person but later told to just go to paypal and refund the money. I will need to call back to get my FVF back - I'm waiting to see if I get a defect from this as well.

Do canceled transactions count toward my defect rate?
•If the seller cancels the transaction for the following reasons, it counts as a defect: ◦"I ran out of stock."
◦"I sold item to another buyer."
◦"…ship to a country I don't ship to."

•Processed a refund through PayPal without any member to member message from the buyer before.

•A few things to keep in mind with defect rates: ◦If you refund outside of the canceled transaction flow, those cancellations can count against you.
◦Always use the cancel transaction flow, and you'll have the appropriate defect rate. Also, using the site flow to cancel transactions allows you to get your fees back and also notifies the buyer about the cancellation.
◦you'd like a lower defect rate, be sure to only cancel transactions when the buyer wants you to.

•The following reasons for a canceled transaction won't count against your seller performance: ◦Buyer purchased item by mistake or changed mind
◦Buyer is returning item for refund
◦You and buyer disagreed over terms
◦Buyer is unresponsive
◦Buyer's payment hasn't been received or hasn't clearer
◦Buyer requested shipment to an unconfirmed address
◦eBay notified you to cancel transaction and Global Shipping Program order

Thanks,

eBay

Exactly what is canceled transaction flow?

I thought about this a bit this morning. eBay uses USPS estimates for shipping time. I was unaware that USPS has started listing 1st class mail delivery 2-3 days. That used to be Priority Mail.

At the same time, eBay has a much shorter time to resolve issues on delayed packages than USPS does. USPS won't even consider an item lost for 30 days. If eBay is going to go by USPS estimates for one, why not the other?

So... how is my estimated delivery date determined by eBay and USPS? Is is based on the date I printed the label, which was Monday (Labor Day)? Or is it based on the 1st scan by USPS, which was Wednesday? Ironically, neither of those days coincide with the day that I actually shipped the item, which was Tuesday.

The buyer can see that it was shipped on time and is in transit. I have had Priority packages from Dallas take over a week to arrive.

This buyer seems to be jumping the gun on this a bit prematurely, but it falls within eBay's timeline for opening a case which is ridiculous. Nobody should be able to open an item not received case for at least 10 days.

After all these years,Ebay still think there are many new sellers out there it must recruit, these so called new sellers dont have good or zilch merchandise, hence all the squabbles and rules .
All these stupid rules and defects can be minimized if they choose their sellers carefully, now we end up paying for bad sellers who cant find their goods,or they never have them to begin with.
One seller was hospitalised for kidney disease,he failed to ship so now he is in trouble,
Ebay rep wants to see a picture of scars on his body?????

first class mail delivery 2-3 days?
I lost my TRS and my 20% discount one Xmas when a buyer from CA read on my item page that first class mail is 2-3 days when there were so much weather problem and flights cancellation and delay that USPS priority shipments get loaded on the plane before first class mail.
She missed her deadline of Xmas gift giving and gave me a big fat neg, along with others who did not get his package overseas,30 days instead of 10 days to Australia.
I will be a TRS again come Sept 20,not sure I will get the 20% discount or if I do,I will lose it again come November 20 when Xmas 90 days return policy kicked in,I am not going to deal with 90 days return,no way,as soon as I liquidate what I have,I am closing my Ebay store.
My other ID for auction is also at risk,a buyer extorted me for a missing button she threw away in the box, when I appealed to Ebay twice, they never respond, the email is probably lost in cyberspace.

Shag,
you know these buyers could be reseller and they could have already copied your item and description and selling them on Ebay or elsewhere, thats why they are most anxious to receive the item in time.
How many of us really care if the shipment arrives in 2-3 days or 3-4 days?

I just checked tracking and it has been updated to show it is now in Philly. Hopefully it gets delivered today. We'll see how well that goes. They'll probably ask for a discount or leave me a neg over something not my fault.

It is in some way the fault of the seller for using a shipper or shipping service which does not deliver the shipment in a timely manner.
If it happens too often, the seller should review his policy and go with a more efficient shipper.
It is easier said than done for a small seller,if it were a Bestbuy or Walmart, they can switch to a different carrier and pay the same fee,but we cannot afford to switch from USPS to UPS given the fierce competition and the low volume we do.

Every Xmas, there are always shipments which are lost, delayed or damaged, last year was the worst in Ebay history,so many packages are stuck in air ports as airlines cancelled their flights or reroute their flights and USPS rerouted their packages and in many cases,USPS is simply helpless in doing anything.
Of course it will make sense if buyers shop early for their Xmas gifts but most do not.
We sellers can do a few things -
-switch to private carriers
-encourage buyers to buy early and give them incentive to do so
-upgrade from first class to priroity as priority has priority when it come to getting on an airplane during rush .
-for those who stock their goods in different cities via AMZN,make sure you are well stocked.
-of course the last resort is put your shop on vacation .

There were bad storms in the midwest, which may have affected the delivery time. Of course, we will never know if that was the cause for the delayed shipment or not.

I would counter that it is the fault of the buyer for purchasing an item online. If they didn't want to wait, they could buy it locally if they knew where to go.

Shag,
of course we can blame our buyers or anybody/any service provider but ourselves!
Buyer could also said if you cant ship promptly, you should just sell locally.
The best way to deal with this type of situation is that if it happens too often ,review our shipping policy and find a better shipper or keep the same shipper but upgrade to a better service,in your case it is USPS priority.
When I have a shop on Yahoo shopping,I upgrade all shipments to USPS priority during Xmas shopping, sometimes I even offer free USPS priority shipping during Xmas,my margin is good enough to allow me to offer free shipping.

Ok, so my thought is...

Perhaps we get some sort of bonus for packages shipped before our ship date or delivered before the estimated arrival date.

This whole notion that there is one 20% that is strictly based on one day shipping is absurd. If we guarantee shipping the package out within 3 days, why not give an incentive for shipping 1 or 2 days?

This whole policy of next day shipping is a farce because all it does is require the sender to print a label.

not real;y,because Ebay also tracks how many printed labels are verified by the carrier within certain time frame as noted in item description.
This whole thing is a total farce from Ebay, the table has turned,Wall Street used to say Ebay trumps AMZN as it doe snot have to hoard inventory now it becomes a big fat disadvantge as AMZN can ship faster and will roll out drones to deliver.
Can you imagine individual EbAY sellers using drones to deliver their shipments?
