"Alibaba Sells eBay Selling Tools and US Marketplace" (EcommerceBytes 6/23/2015)

"Alibaba sold its eBay selling tools and 11 Main marketplace to a little known marketplace called OpenSky last week, and took a 37% share in the company. A person familiar with the matter said that at least in the short term, sellers should expect no changes."

"Asked what she would tell sellers who were nervous that eBay listing tools provided by Auctiva and Vendio might go away, she said "Auctiva and Vendio are core to the company and we are continuing our investment in these businesses."

It looks like we can all fasten our seat belts as we watch the ever changing face of online selling!

I have a shop on 11 Main St.
I have some orders last year due to heavy promotion by 11 Main.
This year I have zero order on 11 Main St and we are looking at 6 months of zero sales !

There have been rumors circling who would buy Ebay ?
You can judge from some of the changes, subtle and not so subtle on Ebay that Ebay is changing!
By asking media sellers to pony up 30 cents instead of 5 cents for books and cd and dvd/vhs listings, many sellers cant make money and forced to stop listing.
Some sellers complain their items are not seen or they have no sales ?
Some claim they are forced into open a store instead of relying on free auction listings.
My hunch is whether they are going to be bought or not, they are ditching the low priced items, some get listed and relisted free many times.

I am one seller in favor of getting rid of low cost items.
Ebay has turned into one big garage sale. I think that's what has driven the buyers away too. I just hope the buyers will come back if the junk goes away. But I afraid it maybe too late.

They are singing praises of AMZN,sellers did well, buyers love the service !
AMZN gave me free prime membership for a month,so I went to their movie streaming site and watched some movies, not every movie is free, prime members get to watch some free movies but have to pay for the others.

Ebay owns Half.com and it is a venue for VHS,CD and DVD and books, I never understand why Ebay does not do it sooner?
As for the 99 cents items, they are blaming the Chinese.

I just read a post on eBay "Sales down 95% etc etc.
It was 24 pages long with what appears to be seasoned seller and everyone is having the same issues.
Some were saying that sellers are often buyer as well and when they stop selling they stop buying as well. I never thought about that before

YES,there are many buyers who buy to resell on Ebay or other sites.
There are also buyers who buy supplies like bubblewrap, ink cartridge, boxes ,tapes.
Ebay is not showing up on major search engines and Ebay Cassinni search engine is hiding/rotating/favoring some listings.
There are more layoffs than we know ,banks are closing branches as more people use online banking, the fall in oil and other commodity prices are hurting more than just the oil and gas industries.
MSFT just announced they are laying off 1200 people.
