I've noticed over the pass few months that eBay isn't charging my buyer enough for UPS shipping. USPS seems fine.
I just got off the phone with eBay Paypal and UPS. They all sound like they are passing the buck.
Finally one of the eBay people told me that they are giving the buyers a discount to attract more buyers to eBay. WHAT - they are giving the buyer some of my profit and why just UPS.

Is this even legal. You have to use their calculator, which they know is wrong and you have to eat the difference.
I just can't do fixed rate shipping because I live in Florida and most of my items are larger. I offer USPS and UPS calculated because it is the fairest way for my buyers.

I'm really at a loss on this one.

Ebay may be giving buyer a discount with UPS shipping but is that discount coming out of your hide?
Since UPS bills Ebay and Ebay bills you,did you check your Ebay seller account?

Yes I'm having to make up the difference!!!
I had one a few day ago that eBay calculated and charged my buyer 19.15 for shipping. When I got ready to print the label - it took me to paypal and the label cost $23.00.
The weight and size where the same in paypal as eBay but the amount was more.
I went to UPS's website to see what it was there and it was $23.00.
I would just add a few dollars to handling charges but then I can't offer priority mail or I will overcharge.
This is just another example of eBay thinking they are helping the buyer when they really aren't.
I wish I could have recorded that CS call - don't think I'll ever get another CS person to tell me that and I'm still not sure it's true. They are pushing FedEx down our throat right now and don't want us to use UPS.

You can go to Ebay seller forum-shipping and return and find out if there is a thread on Fed Exp shipping?
May be Ebay has not updated its rates?

Yes there are lots of post about the UPS issue. Some are saying that it's been that way for over a year - eBay knows it and just won't fix it. I guess it could be worst now that UPS had another rate increase. Also, I don't use the calculator on large items like chairs and such - I list as freight but put in the listing that it will be UPS or Greyhound and to ask for a quote.
People are blaming UPS on the board but it's eBay.
I wonder if FedEx is calculating correctly?
I wonder if I could use FedEx to calculate and then just stitch to UPS.
It's not that I don't like FedEx it's just that when I'm in Jacksonville, there is a UPS 2 blocks away. When I'm in Steinhatchee I have to drive 25 miles to UPS and 45 miles to FedEx.

I dont use UPS or Fed Exp,too expensive for small items.
But if you use either services on Ebay,it is Ebay which has an account with them.
Will it be better if you have your own UPS account and skip Ebay?
From what I understand, these private carriers do not offer insurance, they have an idemnity program which will refund $100-$1000 depending on declared value and category.
And they only deal with the shipper,by shipper,it is the company which has an account with them and it is Ebay, not indvidual Ebay sellers.

arent both UPS and Fed Exp give you an estimate when you print shipping labels and then when the item is delivered,it could add more charges, like fuel charge or whatever charge due to the location?
This is why I like to ship USPS,it cannot charge you more after the package is delivered.
With USPS priority intl guarantee going overseas,it is turned over to Fed Exp intl.
If there is any local fuelcharge, USPS abosrbs it,not me

INXPRESS offers DHL discount for its members, you can go to its website and see if it fits your need.
DHL is pushing its ecommerce service,it is larger than UPS and Fed Exp worldwide, and recently it is pushing domestic service ,I did not pay attention to their latest flyer, but it is touting better shipping rate for heavy items.
If you ship furniture and other heavy stuff, you may want to talk to them,in some locations, they will come and pick up the items.
INXPRESS -Drew Mirander 480-372-8344 ,OR go to their website.

I used DHL for years but they quit shipping domestic. So you think they are back shipping domestic? I would love that. Thanks - I'll have to check it out.
As for UPS insurance - I have not had a claim in a few years that they did not pay. They barely even ask questions now.

Fed Exp told me they dont offer insurance, just indemnity.
It depends on the declared value, max is $100 and for jewelry, max is 1k.
Does UPS offer insurance?
I mean like if I have a piece of jewelry worth $5K,can I insure it for $5k and get $5k if damaged or lost with UPS?

INXPRESS is an organisation which offers members discount shipping with DHL
I joined them last year but I never use them, but they will call me once in awhile and the last I heard they are giving better deals on heavy items.
The discount for members could be 45-50%,so it is worth looking into and you would get tracking and signature,

On the paypal page where you print the label - it fills in the declared value so I'm not sure what that means.
I think the highest claim I ever had was $500 for a chair they lost. They paid the $500 plus $150 or so for shipping.
Way back in the day - they lost a chandelier that I think was like $800. They delivered it to a hurricane evacuated area - probably to the wrong house - didn't get a signature as required. I had purchased all my packing material from my corner UPS store as well as letting them do the label. The owner of the store wrote me a check on the spot for the chandelier, all the packing material and of course the shipping. I was sorry when she sold out to another person.
But for years - it was like an act of congress to file a claim. They always wanted to pay you what you paid for the item - not what it sold for. Luckily I have a friend that does Estate Sales and he was always glad to give me a receipt.

I couldn't find anything about DHL shipping domestic. I don't do enough international so I don't think that would help me.
Do you use eBay's Global Shipping - seems like it works the same way as InXpress

I know with Fed Exp,when the shipper fills out the form, there is a place for declared value,it is not shown on the label, but it is there when you or your shipper fill out the form,I dont know how UPS handles it.
It sounds like the place you go to ship UPS may have a third party insurance policy and it is the insurance company which paid the chandelier and the chair??
U-PIC often said I could have a policy with them and they will settle any claim with me each month, instead of going to their site and do piecemeal insurance for each shipment,so I would expect a shipper like a mail office where they ship UPS,USPS,FEDEXP,DHL would have an insurance policy with an insurance company.

I know a woman who bought some expensive items on Ebay, when she returned the items, she went to a shipper like yours, which sell supplies and offer UPS,Fed Exp,USPS .
She shipped the items back using UPS and then she shipped more items using Fed Exp,each time she took out insurance.
The shipper will file claim with its insurance company when the items were damaged, not Fed Exp.
Fed Exp does not offer insurance,if item is damaged or lost, they offer up to $100 indemnity,if it were jewelry,up to $1000 max.

I do not use Ebay global shipping as most of my items going overseas are small items which I shipped first class USPS.
Occasionally I have some larger items,I would use USPS priority unless a buyer asks for UPS or Fed Exp.
I would just buy insurance with U-PIC if there is no tracking or signature.

The chair was a online label and I had to file a claim with UPS.
The chandelier was a long time ago and the owner may have done it that way to keep me as a customer - I don't really know.
