Before the Auction: Using Bulk Listing Tools
by Marc Dultz

If you're new to the online auction scene or unfamiliar with some of the more popular powerselling tools on the market today, then it's a good bet you're still launching your repeat auctions with the relist command. While the relist feature is certainly a quick way of getting individual listings back on the virtual auction block, it's not exactly the most effective means of managing a larger product portfolio. For this, you might want to consider upgrading and using an auction assistant program that includes, among other offerings, a handy little utility known as a bulk listing tool.

Keep It Simple, Stupid
A bulk listing tool lets you--the seller--control your auctions offline, so you needn't worry about logging on to the Internet or directly accessing an auction site every time you need to create a new listing. It also enables you to organize, schedule, and group listings much more efficiently, which slashes the amount of time and work it takes to post a lot of repeat listings.

Many of the most popular bulk listing utilities are straightforward and easy to use, containing the same set of selling tools found on the auction sites. Besides a title, description, duration, and minimum price field, most bulk listing tools include a user profile section that automatically sets and saves the listing as well as payment, shipping, and destination options for each individual item. Many offer a wide range of general and seasonal templates, so sellers can customize the appearance of the listing any way they see fit.

The vast majority of bulk listing programs also offer either visible or invisible viewer counters, thus allowing sellers to track in real time how many users actually have seen the listing. Lastly, there's usually some sort of preview mode available, so the seller can check, cancel, and revise any listing prior to its posting.

Perhaps the most important feature of a bulk listing utility is that it lets sellers create and launch batches of items according to their own preferences. Therefore, instead of putting up everything for sale at the same time, a seller can group listings into individual categories, then periodically launch them at varying intervals.

Good, Better, Best
There are several good bulk listing tools from which to choose, including one or two offered by the auction sites themselves. eBay, for one, offers a competent bulk listing utility called Mister Lister, which can be downloaded and used free of charge by anyone with a valid eBay account. The only problem with Mister Lister is that it was designed to work in conjunction with eBay. So, if you frequent any of the other online auction sites, such as Yahoo Auctions or Amazon.com Auctions, the program won't do you much good.

Vendio, on the other hand, offers a powerful, feature-rich bulk listing utility called Auction Manager Pro, which lets the user create and launch listings to any of the three major auction sites. Moreover, Auction Manager Pro supports Vendio's image hosting services so that adding multiple photos or other images to a listing is a snap. Best of all, Auction Manager Pro has been seamlessly integrated into all of Vendio's other tracking and post-sale management services, which makes the online auctioneering process truly pleasurable and streamlined.
