EL CAZADOR - 1794

On January 11, 1784 The Spanish ship El Cazador “The Hunter” a Spanish Brig of War left Vera Cruz, Mexico for New Orleans carrying a vast treasury of freshly minted silver and bound for the New World. The vessel and its crew disappeared into the winter sea, sinking without a trace. We may never know what mysterious force sank her but it's certain that her lost treasure holds the key to the birth of the nation we know today.

 

On a fateful day in August 1993, the shipwreck of El Cazador was accidentally discovered by Capt. Jerry Murphy of the fishing vessel "Mistake".  On that day in August Captain Murphy pulled up more than fish, he pulled up treasure coins and found that the coins were dated 1783.  That meant that it was a mint shipment which means that you've got a major find of historical proportions.
