This is a very useful mod. It allows you to cut the signal from your guitar at will.

It has two primary uses. Most people use it to control their instruments during practices.

If you use a lot of drive or distortion then you know how difficult it can be to talk to the person next to you with all that gain.

Just flip the switch and your guitar will be quite long enough for you to hear what the drummer is saying. Then flip it back on to continue the jam.

Studio Musicians often use these to keep guitars silent between takes or phrases.

Alternatively, It can be used as a very cool expression toy. I like to match it with a fairly large toggle style switch so that I can brake up chords or notes for emphasis when playing.

It can also be setup with a mercury switch so that when a guitar is in a stand it automatically silences itself until you pick it up.

I do not have any mercury switches available at the moment but if you have one I can certainly wire it for you.

Additionally, I have set these up before with a mercury switch at a 45 degree angle.

This allows the player to trigger the switch while playing by tilting or rocking the guitar. This will also 'turn off' the guitar when in a stand.
