|EAST MEETS WEST (1995) - REMASTERED
East meets West - A tale of the first Japanese mission to the United States in 1860, as veteran director Kihachi Okamoto spins this genre-bending Samurai Western.
Kamijo, a Ronin from a Clan opposed to Japan's opening to foreign lands is sent incognito with a government delegation to the United States. He's on a deadly mission to assassinate high-ranking Officials and foil the plans of internationalism. Upon arrival he's put in charge of exchanging three thousand pieces of gold into American dollars. Unfortunately, he's jumped by desperado's who make off with the gold, after hacking a half-dozen baddies to death, Kamijo sets out into the Wild West in pursuit of the stolen gold.
Learning of Kamijo's true identity, Japanese officials figure that he was responsible for the theft and dispatch a Ninja to kill him and retrieve the gold. Things get even more complicated when a tow-headed moppet accompanies him while searching for his father's killer; followed later by an ornery but honorable school teacher who leads his once-delinquent charges in a quest for law and order.
This rag-tag posse of Occidentals and Orientals eventually makes its way to New Mexico where they wreck revenge on the gang of evil desperado's, retrieve the gold, and clean up the town in the process.
