Tubie Whoobies was born out of a love for a very special little girl. She is my inspiration, my muse and my hero. Genevieve Brors was born with a birth defect called gastroschisis. Her intestines developed on the outside of her body because of a hole in her abdomen. Because her intestine was not protected it was severally damaged before she was born. She had to have surgery at 3 hours old to try to repair what she had left. Over the next few months Genevieve had many surgeries and suffered an almost total loss of her small and large intestine which resulted in short bowel syndrome. She spent the first 7 months of her life in the hospital fighting for her life! When she finally came home and met her twin sister, she still could not eat because of the extensive damage to her digestive tract. She was given a G-Tube to drain her stomach and allow her to heal completely. She got all of her nutrition via an IV that was permanently placed in her chest. I started making G-Tube pads as a way to keep her granulation tissue under control as well as absorb the drainage and leakage from around her stoma. Over time I began to make them in different shapes. This is a little girl who was give no hope of survival but is now almost 2 years old and living an amazing life. Her body is broken and scared and she has no belly button, but her smile will melt your heart. Tubie Whoobies is about embracing what you have and living to the best of your abilities, not being embarrassed or hiding your differences. We make different products to add function, fashion, and fun to people who do things differently. Necessary medical treatments are sometimes scary and painful, our products are designed to distract the mind, bring joy and to hopefully minimize the trauma of the experience.
