A fine Vienna or Wiener Bronze with a nice aged patina.

An unusual risqué little bronze depicting Satyr and a Nymph in a highly erotic pose.

Perfectly modeled by the last workshop out of ca. eighty which existed in Vienna around 1900, founded in 1850 by Mathias Bermann as the first foundry producing Austrian Bronzes, the inventor if you will. The little sculpture is a true masterpiece, notably under consideration of the size.

The satyrs and nymphs were a topic commonly used in the art world throughout the history, based on the Greek and Roman mythology. There are many examples in visual arts, as sculptures, miniatures as here, but also in utensils like the famous Greek vases and pottery in general.

Hereunder is another great example featuring a complete Austrian bronze orchestra with ten musicians.

In Greek mythology the satyrs are deities of the woods and mountains. They are half human and half beast; they usually have a goat's tail, flanks and hooves. While the upper part of the body is that of a human, they also have the horns of a goat. They are the companions of Dionysus, the god of wine, and they spent their time drinking, dancing, and chasing nymphs.
