An excellent early Austrian wildlife bronze.
polychrome figurine depicts an otter with his prey.
A great snapshot from nature cast in sold
bronze more than a century ago.
The otter is made of solid bronze, is marked
‘Geschützt’ and has quite some weight for the size. He has been created by one
of the fifty to eighty workshops that existed around 1900 with perfect
attention to the detail.
There is very little paint loss despite the
age. The figurine must have been kept the entire time in curio cabinets by the
generations of owners.
We are extremely glad being able to offer a
valuable creation thanks to a collector who commissioned us to offer this and
other exceptional old Austrian bronzes.
We would like to emphasize that there are
currently few really good Viennese bronzes on the market, especially with
regard to the many counterfeits, which are now offered everywhere, particularly
on ebay. Some of these ignorant sellers confuse the term ‘Geschützt’ with the
name of a sculptor or producer. Collectors know that it translates from German
as ‘protected’ and stands for ‘copyright’ or ‘patented’. French bronzes marked
with ‘deposé’ have the same meaning.
Those, who know us, are aware that we are at
war with these scammers.
