This is a Navajo old pawn sterling silver and turquoise belt buckle which was handcrafted by Navajo Silversmith Jim Yazzie. He was the smith for the Atkinson Trading company before 1980. This exceptional piece measures 3" long and 2" wide. The buckle can accommodate a 1-1/2" belt and weighs 67g. The buckle is slightly contoured and the part that holds the belt is hinged, which is comfortable. The buckle is in excellent vintage condition with some patina and tarnish from age. It would shine up beautifully if you want to wipe it with a jeweler's cloth. It's clearly an older piece and very striking with the applied leaves and wire work as well as the two natural claws and the stunning piece of natural turquoise. The back of the buckle is stamped "Jim Yazz." The claws are special as are the applied leaves, raindrops, twisted wires and applied wire work, and the turquoise is beautiful quality. The silver work exhibits skill in many aspects. Overall, it's really a beautiful older piece.
