                                              Not by Chance nor Happenstance

At the heart of these words is a beautiful poem by Helen Steiner Rice. After reading this poem, I remember saying, wow; it left such a big impact on me that when I was thinking of a name for my business, the word Happenstance came to mind. Without hesitation, I decided to name my business Happenstance Personalized Products. Because my sister designed and made my clothing when I was a child, I added the personalization. I remember she always added my initials on the clothing, which gained a lot of attention from my friends. I wanted all my clothes and my dolls’ clothes to have a personalization added.

As a child I was an avid reader, and my love for personalization determined what product I would enjoy marketing. When I started my business five years ago, my choice of a product to market was personalized children’s books. While volunteering in the schools in my community, I observed that some of the 2nd and 3rd graders were reading at a kindergarten level. Doing research about this niche product, I found that it had an educational impact on children, helping them with reading.

I believe Happenstance gave me the opportunity to make a difference, so I decided to market at daycare centers and public schools for several years. I received tremendous feedback from educators and parents about the positive influence the books were having on the children.

In 2012 I decided to take the business in another direction. I opened an ecommerce store with quality products for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Trendy and affordable. These products are packaged for multiple occasions for mothers looking to save money with free customization.

This can give me the opportunity to have a flexible schedule and to start a literacy project for underprivileged children in the community. Now some folks call it fickle fate and some folks call it chance, while others just accept it as pleasant happenstance.
