The taste of home grown vegetables is far superior to supermarket bought.   Sorry, Tomato seed cannot be mailed to Tasmania due to that state's quarantine restrictions.   This auction is for packets of 30+ seeds harvested from the Galapagos Tomato variety (Lycopersicon cheesmanii).   A wild species from the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador, a country in northwestern South America. These islands are famous for its giant tortoises and helping Charles Darwin shape his Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.   The Galapagos Tomato, endemic to the Galapagos Islands is a salt resistant tomato that has been used to create hybrids which are capable of growing in salty soil around the world.   Both drought-tolerant and salt-wind tolerant.   Studies show that L. cheesmanii contains many times the antioxidant beta-carotene of normal tomatoes.   The plants when staked can grow to a height of 150 cm and 60 cm wide. I just let them sprawl out, and they still set plenty of fruit.   Reputedly these seeds must pass through the digestive tract of the giant Galapagos tortoise before they will germinate. My germination tests on moist paper towels resulted in good germination, so there is no need to have one of the giant tortoises around.     (Tomato seeds need minimum 17 degrees Celsius for successful germination)   Please read the sections below.
