In order to enjoy life’s successes you must first endure and overcome life’s adversities. This is a fact well known by Kevin Brown, author of Chasing Crows. Born August 15, 1977 on Detroit’s eastside, Kevin began his life in poverty and was subjected to a dysfunctional household.  Stricken with illiteracy and having experienced molestation, a young Kevin failed both the 3rd and 7th grades in school. As a teen Kevin became involved in gangs and was later convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to prison at the age of 18. Despite his misfortunes and emotional battles, Kevin promised to redeem himself once he was released from prison. Once released, he became a single parent of his eldest son.

Only having completed the 9th grade and possessing a GED which he obtained in prison, Kevin set out on an inspirational journey for redemption, to become a role model for his sons and to inspire and uplift his community and nation. Majoring in accounting at one of the 30 largest universities in America, Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, Kevin became the first African American to be elected president of its School of Business Administration’s student government. Through his determination and relentless pursuit of excellence, the little boy who was once considered illiterate and a statistical failure was recognized as one of the premier business students in Michigan and was showered with accolades from the university where he received both his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and his Master in Business Administration.

Kevin lives by his motto, “With Drive, Determination and Persistence… Accomplish the Unimaginable.” Kevin currently resides in Detroit and is a motivational speaker possessing the passion of sharing his message of redemption, determination and perseverance in light of seemingly insurmountable odds with both youth and adults. He has three sons, O’Shay (age 12), Jay’Ven (age 9) and Kaden (age 6), who also live in the metro Detroit area.
