Being offered for sale is this Superb Aesthetic Eastlake Victorian Ebonized Cherry Ladies Writing Desk circa 1880. This fine 19th century desk features beautiful pierced carved geometric designs, incised carvings of Sunflowers, cattails, bamboo and the Sun, with its original brass Eastlake hardware.
This desk measures 47 inches high from the floor to the top of the back,27 3/4 inches from the floor to the top of the felt covered pull out writing surface,29 3/4 inches wide, and 19 3/4 inches deep and this piece weighs approximately 60 lbs.
This piece is so unique and unusual with is blend of geometric and incised carvings at the top and on the drawer fronts, and its sweet size would allow it to be placed in about any room of your home. It has three small storage drawers over the pull out writing surface which does have newer replacement felt. The base below features three larger drawers each with brass Eastlake pulls and period dovetailed joinery .This splendid 19th century ladies desk is solid and tight and has a beautiful presence. There does seem to be a small old repair to a portion of the geometric carvings on the top left, I have shown a close-up picture of this and it was nicely done...it may even be an original joint but wanted to mention it.
