How To Use

You can include Boolean operators in your keyword search terms to search more effectively. The Boolean operators are AND, OR and NOT. You can also use ", [a comma]" and "( ) [parentheses]" in your terms. By using the operators and defined punctuation, you can narrow or broaden your search results.
Boolean searching on Vendio is not case-sensitive. "This OR THAT and Those" is the same as "this or that and those". Words are separated from each other in a Boolean search term by spaces, commas and parentheses. |
AND To narrow your search, use the word AND between the two search words. Using AND causes the search results to contain both search terms. For example, enter "Cat AND Dog" in the search field to find items that contain both "Cat" and "Dog" in their title. A space with no other operator is a synonym for AND. So a search for "Brown Dog Puppy" is the same as "Brown AND Dog AND Puppy". This search returns all items that contain all three words in the item's title. All other punctuation (except for parentheses and commas) are treated like spaces. For example, "this.that!those" is converted to "this AND that AND those." This includes double quotes and hyphens. "CDP-500" is the same as "CDP 500" which is read as "CDP AND 500". |
OR To broaden the scope of your search, use the word OR in your search term. Using OR retrieves all items that match either of the search terms. For example, the search "Cat OR Dog" returns all items that contain either "Cat" or "Dog" in their title. However, the title does not need to contain both "Cat" and "Dog". A comma "," is a synonym for OR. "Cat, Dog, Mouse" is the same as "Cat OR Dog OR Mouse". |
NOT To narrow your search, use the word NOT. Using NOT causes the search results to exclude the search item following the word NOT. For example, the search "Cat NOT Dog" returns all listings which include the word "Cat" in the title, but not the word "Dog". It returns "Cats are Like People", but not "Cat and Dog Guide Book". NOT is only used by itself. Do not use search terms such as "Cat AND NOT Dog" or "Sweater OR NOT Green". There are no synonyms for NOT. |
Parentheses Use parentheses to combine Boolean operators for a more complex search. For example, enter: "Dog NOT (Cat OR Mouse)" to find items that have "Dog", but not "Cat" or "Mouse". |
Precedence Vendio Stores Search reads the search terms from left to right. All operators have equal weighting, or precedence, in the search. |
"-" (minus) Signs Vendio Stores Search does not currently support the "-" (minus) sign. A search for "Cat - Dog" is read as an AND search: "Cat AND Dog". |
