Hi Gang!

Well, I see I missed all of the excitement as usual. Today was my first day back to work finally. I only ended up being there for about 4 hours, but I'll be on a 6 hour shift for awhile. It's a bit strange to be back after almost a year. A lot of people are gone, but quite a few are left. I also returned to the news that we'll have another 10% lay-off within a couple of weeks and no one is immune to this one. So I could be out of a job as fast as I came back.

Pharlap, I'm so sorry to hear about your nana. I hope they fix her up well and get her on the mend! And please take care of yourself too. I know how bad burnout can be and what it does to you. I'm still not totally convince that my back troubles aren't a part of my own work stress. Take some bubble baths and try to take care of your health, otherwise it can get you later!

Zilvy! It's nice to see you back my dear. I've missed your uplifting emails.

Bob, I'm sorry to hear that you missed out on a free trip. But hey, I know you had fun getting to where you did and we're proud of you no matter what!

Gravid, I can definitely say it's rough going back to work after being out for a year. But then again they still haven't quite fixed me yet nor have they gotten a handle on my pain. The narcotics (Vicodin & Percocet) no longer work, my body has become immune to them now. I think they have one more new drug to try and then it may be epidurals. We shall see.

Hi Michelle! Give that baby a kiss for me!

Ok, if I forgot anything I'm sorry. All the posts are on the last page and I can't see them. I have to run and go pass out. I only work one more day this week so if I'm not too tired I might get to hang out tomorrow night!

Hello whoever is around.

Mouse I bet deep down you are glad to be back at work, I have no doubt that it will seem very strange after so long and it will probably take a little while to settle into a routine again, but just think of the pay cheque at the end of the week.

Pharlap, soooooooo how did the interview go?? Do you already know if the job is yours or will you have to wait to find out?

How is your Nan, any better?

Bob, I hope you took MrsBits to a lovely meal today for her birthday, and I hope she liked her prezzie.

nettak, It's been a great day! We had some visitors for a little while early this morning and then we just took off for the day.
Headed up through the hills as the fancy took us, did a few antique shops, found a country pub doing a Xmas in July lunch, Roast Turkey with the lot, ended up in town at the Casino late this afternnon and did some dough, and here we are back home again!
I could get to like this kind of life!

Hey guys!

I had my interview today but I didn't get the job So it's back on the phones for me...

Nan's not doing too badly. She'll be moved to another hospital tomorrow with better rehabilitation facilities which will be good.

Had a bad night myself though last night. I woke up in the middle of the night with shocking pains and uncontrollable spasms in my stomach. Spent the night in hospital and they seem to think that it could be my gall bladder. Have to go have an ultrasound next week to see if I need to have it taken out. Talk about a run of bad luck! I was worried that I wouldn't be released in time to make it to my interview but I was. Not that it matters now

Bob it sounds like you had a fantastic day.

I wouldn't mind a trip out to the casino myself, but alas I have to work. Oh well I will just think of the money I am saving by not going. LOL

If there is one thing that I like to do it is go into the old country second hand shops, the real old time type of store, not the new ones. The original second hand shops that are full of junk and you have to search through things to find something hidden in a box or a corner. Those types of shops seems to be a lost thing now, well at least here in the city.

Well I am glad that your wife had a great birthday. Now all we need to do is hear from Pharlap whether or not she got the job.

pharlap, If it's your gall bladder playing up you have my sympathy.
Mine played up some years ago and it had to come out.
The operation itself is not to bad. I was home in three days, tender for a week, but you soon recover. If it has to come out, don't worry. You'll feel so much better when it's done.

Well I will tell you something we were told this afternoon. One of our competitors over the other side of town was vandalised last night, as a matter of fact someone tried to burn him out. Someone means business, now we do not know if it is the same person that took our splitter or not, but it seems strange that we are broken into and a few weeks later someone else loses machinery and now another supplier is almost burnt out. Coincidence I'm not sure, but it does make me wonder who is up to what. The 3 businesses that were targeted so far have all been the most well established ones' and we are the ones' that have been around the longest. Maybe one of the new guys around wants all the action. Anyway surely the police will have to take notice of this incident, someone could have been killed.......they poured petrol all over the wood pile and if it had of caught properly it could have spread to this mans house. It is a low act to do, but even worse to do it at night.

Hi pharlap, I had mine done about 15 years ago. Things may be different now and the techniques might be better and quicker.
One funny thing I remember was that they gave me my gallstones back in a glass jar. One of the kids took them to school for a show and tell day! God only knows what he told the kids they were!
One thing that will help you if you do have a gall bladder problem is to be very careful with your diet. By sticking to very bland foods you will eliminate a lot of the discomfort. Foods like boiled fish, rice, grated raw carrot etc are fine.
If you indulge in anything with a high fat content then it can be misery and excruciatingly painful.
Been there, done that.
You can send that box of Mars Bars and Tim Tams to me for safekeeping. I wont eat them, honest!
( Would you buy a used car from this guy! )

Nettak - whoever is doing this obviously isn't too bright. Each 'incident' that happens is another chance for them to slip up and get caught. And unless they start damaging their own property to throw the police off their trail (not likely to happen - not bright enough) I have a feeling that these people (person?) will get caught fairly soon.

Let us know when it happens and we'll have a mini party

Don't you believe him, I can hear him chuckling to himself through the computer. He wants to eat them.

At least he didn't say "trust me". I always told my kids', never trust a person who says "trust me".

I hope they get caught real soon, because I worry that someone is going to get hurt. These people (if it is the same ones' all the time) seem to be doing worse things as they go along, and you know what they will probably continue to get away with it, because the police as far as I can see are not doing a real lot to help. Now don't get me wrong I am not bagging the police. I think on the whole they do a fairly good job in bad circumstances, but as far as we are concerned they have not lifted a finger to help and it is a bit like a joke to them, they act like it is not a crime worthy of there time or something.

It is a matter of resources. If they had two fellows to sit all night watching the 3 businesses and another 2 or 3 that have not been hit they would have the bums next time they strike. However think of the expense involved.
I think I would start thinking in terms of a silent perimeter alarm and the ability to get outside that perimeter without them being aware so you can trap them inside. But deny them access to the house as a refuge.

Think in terms of a military operation.

Black clothing / face cover
two way radio/cell phone
flash camera
flare gun/quart of gas in plastic
clothing dye in squirt gun
cable ties
trip wire
nail boards for tires
shotgun with a couple light loads and a couple heavy loads

identify/apprehend or mark/deny or defend
as needed and in proportional response

photograph them if possible
mark them with dye if possible
deny retreat with nail boards
or destroy vehicles when empty
apprehend them and restrain them with ties if minimal force will do it
deny them ability to escalate it to harming you with birdshot.
If they press for entry to your home or display weapons - 00 shot will work even with body armour as too much is not covered.
I load brazing rod with chisel ends in shells. A few are always end on and will even pierce soft armour. Then they turn sideways....

Try not to shoot inside your house. You would be shocked what a short barreled shotgun does to the dry wall carpets and windows. I learned the hard way. About as expensive as a fire actually.

That is scary, and I can honestly promise you that I will never shoot a gun inside my house or anywhere else for that matter. I have no intention of living in fear, or of living in a prision like atmosphere.

What I was saying about the police was not that they should drop everything and put men to stake out our business, or the other businesses that have been hit. But rather that they should act on the information that they have been given and which is already on there files. For instance they do have witnesses that they have never even bothered to contact. When our depot was broken into it was witnessed and the police still to this day over 2 months later have not even called the people that saw the break in, when we called the police to ask what was happening we were told that they would call us back and let us know how the case was progressing..........well it is a damn good thing I wasn't holding my breath waiting, because I would be slightly blue in the face by now.

I have never expected them to do anything other than the job with which they are paid to do, and I feel that I have a right to be angry because they are not doing the job that they should be. We pay our taxes and as tax payers we in essence do pay for there services. Services which I might add have not been given to us when we have needed it.

nettak - In that case I would start to wonder if a cop or a cops relative was involved. That is the usual reason something is ignored like that. Police often have a "no arrest" list of local politicians and judges also.
If there are seperate police agencies go to the provencial or national police and complain that for some reason the local police are not even speaking to witnesses while their memory of the event degrades slowly. Here if there is local corruption the FBI is happy to put a feather in their cap by bringing it out.

Why don't YOU take a tape recorder anmd go interview these people to preserve their statements before some of them move off or get run over by a truck? The longer you wait the less they will remember.

Pharlap - Soorry you did not get your job. Sounds like the whole thing was very stressfull. I wonder if the stress of doing the interview was not enough to make you sick. Pretty hard to do a good interview sick. Does not sound like a happy place to be no matter which position you are in. No replacement very easy to find?

MouseS - What do you actually have to do at work. very physical? I really feel for you having to push...

I made about $600 on auctions this week. If I could do that every week I would not have to look for a part time job soon. I had an offer from a security company. I was at an auction in an industrial building and there was a big black guy next to me dressed super nice. We were waiting for the auctioneer to work al;ong the line of goods to our spot. I commented to him that the fellow about 50 foot away in the military jacket was having a nervous fit because he wanted to steal something and the auctioneer had laid it out so there were no area where you could not be observed. He was surprised and after watching him a while handed me his card and said if you want to work undercover security come see me - but the company is down in the heart of Detroit and I won't work there. I won't pay the extra city income tax either.

B&B - I don't speak golf but HI..

My current schedule is 11:15am-5:15pm, 3-4 days a week alternating. I happened to get lucky and come back on a short week, so I'm off until Monday. I'm kinda glad to be back, it gives me something to do (I was starting to get really bored hanging around the house) and it's nice to see old coworkers again. Of course some of them are gone from all of the lay offs. Speaking of lay offs...I came back to the news that they'll be laying off another 10% of the manufacturing side (where I am) and 25% of the office staff by the end of the month. At this point they have no idea who will go and how they'll decide. They only know that no one is safe. So I may be out of a job almost as fast as I came back. But hubby thinks I'm immune because my medical leave/claim isn't closed yet because I'm on a part time schedule with restrictions. We shall see...

Oh, and the car trouble isn't fixed yet either. But I got an answer today that made sense to me and I had guessed right in the beginning!
