BTW, Speaking of cows. I heard the other day that that cattle duffing business I was helping my mate with a few months ago was linked to an outfit somewhere up your way.
From what I hear they have actually got a full time dedicated section of the police working on nothing else now. They do spot road blocks on trucks and random inspections of properties and processing plants.

We used to know this police officer that was linked with the major crime division and he was in on cattle duffing busts ect. This guy was like no other policeman I have ever come across, but I think he was a bit like an undercover officer. He has left the force now, I think it takes it's toll after a while.

I have to get back to my bookwork, but before I do, I have to ask you Bob if you read the Census How to Book? There is a section at the very back titled "Did you know?" It says.....The first population counts of Australia were known as "musters", geez we were treated just like a cattle call even back then. Some things never change.

Hi guys'. Well I see that none of us came in last night. I was just too tired from getting all my tax stuff finished, and I had to go to the specialist with my daughter yesterday.....that was a real treat in itself. At least one good thing came from her doctor's visit, we met a lady that was very nervous because she was meeting with the surgical doctor and she was afraid, so I talked to her (yes my voice is back) and I really do hope that I helped calm her fears. The poor lady has really had this shoved on her, she only found out 6 weeks ago that she is in renal failure and I suppose it has come as a big shock to her. She told me she was too afraid to ask her sons' if they would donate an organ for her. I told her to tell them everything and let them decide for themselves. If they love there mother and they are compatable I do believe that they will give there mother a chance to live a normal life. BTW her children are not babies, they are 29 and 31 so they are certainly old enough to understand why they need to do this. Oh I feel so nervous for this lady I can not stop thinking about her. I know she is having dialysis this morning and I think I will ring and see how she is going. This can be a very scary thing.

Now as to my tax, well I don't know how I did it but I am getting a refund on my GST....YIPPEE!!! The BAS part should owe me a sizable refund too if all my estimations are correct.

We had the big trucks roll in here yesterday morning with the road base for the depot, this is the second lot of double truckloads that we have gotten in, and I hope it is the last we need to buy.....it is damn expensive stuff. Anyway we have pipes running under the driveway for the septic, and guess what is broken this morning. It is the run off pipe but still not nice to have to be playing in......thank god it is not hot or it could be very smelly. Oh well we will just have to fix the thing, and then Greg plans to cement that part of the driveway, we will just leave an inspection plate over that section so that it can be checked as needed.

So now you can see that I really did have a good excuse for not coming in last night, so what was your excuse.....hmmmmmmm.

Oh and before I leave you, I heard a little ditty last night and loved it so I will post it for you, for no particular reason but that it tickled my fancy.

nettak - I had a friend who drove one of those HUGE trucks that pull dump trailers of the hot asphalt out to the big machines laying pavemant for the turnpike. One day he got up there and the state inspector stuck a probe down in it and announced it was 4°F too cool and he could not take it. He phoned back and the dispatcher said OK you can bring it back here and dump it on the back of the lot or anywhere you are sure you won't get us in trouble. He called all his friends and laid a beautiful drive way and parking pad on his property with curbs for free.

nettak, Good to see that you're voice is back again.
Didn't get in yesterday as I went bush for the day.It was pretty much a waste of time with nothing much to show for it.
I stopped at one scungy, run down old place and looked at a few things that were unpriced.
I asked the old ancient how much he wanted for them and when he said to make an offer, I did.
He sat there and laughed, told me to bugger off 'cos he could get three times my offer on eBay for them!
This age of technology is getting out of control.

That happens to me all the time. What's even worse if when they asked you to look it up FOR them...cause they only want 75% of the ebay top price.

I still don't know what this thread is about because now I don't know where I asked the question. *shrug*
T

Oh, I found it! Thanks. I often stay up until the rooster crows (4 am) but tonight I think I will go to bed. Hubby is not very happy with me. I don't know why. I just mentioned that the house needs painted, deck needs treated, some giant limbs need chainsawed, my pond area needs weed-eated, and I can't tip my fountain over cause it's too heavy and it's breeding mosquitoes.

I ACTUALLY asked him to teach me how to weedeat and he implied that I must be stupid cause there is no way that I can weed-eat. I ACTUALY asked him to cut the limbs so I could load them in the truck, move them, stack them. *shrug* I wasn't nagging....I just wanted to go outside and needed help. Darnit.
He just wanted to play pinball.

ZiLvY, Loved your Basset!
It reminded me of a Basset we had for a while some years ago.
He wandered into our garden one day, thin, hungry and very much the worse for wear.
He had no collar or tag and he seemed to want to stay.
I'm a bit of a soft touch as far as dogs go, so we took him in and began to make enquiries as to where he could have come from.
After a week or so we had no luck in finding the owners and in the meanwhile he had been well fed and spoilt and was really coming back into good condition.
We decided to keep him and took him to the vets and forked out for innoculations etc. The next day he dug his way out under the fence never to be seen again. It was as though he just decided to freeload for a few weeks!
Apparantly, if a Basset gets on a scent then that's it. They'll follow it no matter where it goes.
That's probably what he had been doing when he got lost in the first place and decided that we looked like the source of a rest home!

Speaking of naked, I have to tell you what happened this morning. We switched to FedEx and (as far as the driver goes) everything has been going fine...until today. A different guy came.

I went to the door in my nighty, peeked out and said, "none today". So he said, "well I need to scan your book or they will think I wasn't here." OK, go to get the book across the room. In the mean time he comes in and sit's down at the table, I am a little embarassed so I hand it to him and sit down in the corner at the computer and try to hide under the desk and stare intently at the screen while he writes something in the book. (Does he have to do that? The other guy doesn't.) He want's to know how long I have lived here..."umm..6 years". "OH, now he remembers me because last year he parked in my back yard to rearrange his truck thinking I wasn't home and drove all through the grass, I called FedEx, and he lost his monthly bonus!" OH yeah, I kinda remember that too.

Ok, well it's hot but this guy smelled disgusting.

THEN he kicks back in the chair and says, "So what's in all those packages you ship? You do art work here or something?" I said, "ummm...huh?...different stuff." I am IGNORING HIM BIG TIME! I was just dying sitting there getting the 3rd degree from this guy, me in my nightgown. FINALLY (after several more futile questions) he left.

I am not sure that I am going to like FedEx.

Hello to you all, hope you all had a good day.

Gravid, I wish we had a friend that could get bitumen for us for free, that would be a wonderful present to give someone. We would need about 7 big double truck loads just for the driveway up the front, from the road to the house, and then about the same to do the base for the depot. Oh well I was never meant to be rich, so I guess I will just have to pay for the lot.

{{{{Zilvy}}}} what a lovely thing to say, I thank you very much, and I do really think that you are all wonderful people and I do feel blessed to have met all of you. As to what I said to the lady in the renal unit. I think that I only said what anyone would have said, or I hope so anyway. I did ring her today and she is feeling much better, still afraid of the unknown but she says she is more accepting of it now. I hope her family will be as accepting and are willing to help with whatever they can.

Bob doesn't that cheese you off when that happens, you go out ready and willing to buy and all you can find is crap, or another ebay seller. LOL Oh well such is life.

We also are suckers for stray dogs, and my youngest son used to bring dogs home on a regular basis when he was younger. I can remember one day when he was about 10 or 11 he had this dog that he says followed him home, it turns out that it had been hanging around the local shops and my son asked who it belonged to, the store keeper told him it was a stray and he could have it, so he bought it home and told me it had followed him. What he did not know was that I had been watching out the office window and I saw him and one of his mates coaxing the dog along and as soon as he got home he tied it up to the post, so that it could not get away while he came and broke the news to me. LOL We already had 2 dogs, a cat, a galah and 6 chooks so we found a good home for the dog, it was just not our house. My son did not talk to me for a week over that episode.

Hello jt, glad to see you back. Now don't you go listening to Bob, because he will lead you astray big time. My husband will not let me use the brushcutter, because he says it is too heavy for me. I did sneak it out one day when he was out and yes it is heavy but with a bit of practice I think I could trim those edges as good as he does. The only trouble is that if I get too good at it he might want me to do them all the time. LOL

nettak, You're not casting aspersions on my character are you? LOL!!!!!
I'm as pure as the driven snow.

I'll never forget my youngest boy and a "stray" dog.
We'd gone to the beach one day, and young Stu, who was about four at the time, had gone missing as usual.
He eventually came into view with a scruffy black dog in tow on the end of a bit of string.
He proudly told us it was lost and could we take it home with us. When we asked him if he was sure it was lost he said yes, "cos he'd heard a bloke down the far end of the beach looking and calling for it!

Yeah I would watch it with that driver. He sounds like he is entirely too interested in you and the business and everything but getting his butt back in the truck and down the road with the packages.
When we rented we had a landlord like that and one day he let himself in the door when I was gone. My wife heard the keys in the door and stepped over behind the door. When he stepped in she laid the cold muzzle of my Pietro Barretta under his ear from behind and rolled the hammer back - click/click/click.

He got the idea it was not a safe thing to do in the future.

Hi gang! I'm sorry I missed everyone last night. I haven't been feeling well all week and it finally dawned on me today what the problem is. I started taking a new medication (an antinbiotic) last Friday. Today I reread the side effects: upset stomach (yep), nausea (yep again), headache (that too). Ok, that's not the whole list, just what I've been experiencing. Then I get to the serious side effects: stomach pain (I've hardly been able to get out of bed), vision changes (been blurry for a few days now), mental changes (Mom & hubby say I've been cranky, to put it nicely). And the allergic reactions: itching (started yesterday) & dizziness (got really bad today, thought I was going to pass out). Um, you guys think I oughta stop taking it now? I feel kinda dumb that I didn't catch it earlier, but as you know my brain isn't always in gear lately...

So anyway, since I took my last one this morning, I'm still not feeling well. I don't know how long I'll manage to stay up tonight, but I miss you guys!

Mouse for goodness sake stop taking the pills and call the Doctor right away...dayum I wish I has seen this last night. Especially with the itching reaction that is really BAD!!

Bob Loved your story about the Bassett taking advantage of a kind hearted soul....wise pooch, I hope he fared as well at the next station.

Something had been digging in my father's vegetable garden and he was really getting upset...so he set himself up with his rifle and a blind and was going to get the damned thing (thinking it was a ground hog or skunk)
Well, thank goodness he had good light for viewing...it was a Little Dachsund..digging and eating his carrots...the little thing wasn't doing too well, skinny and no shine to its coat in spite of the carrots.

Mom & Dad adopted "Molly" turned out a "wonderful" fellow about a mile from them had kicked the dog out...because after being left alone all day she had an accident. He didn't want her back...she was a delight and never had accidents when someone saw to it she got outside when needed.

The former owner, in my opinion, was the miserable cur. He was gonna let her die by turning her out in the country.

Hello out there, anybody home.

Mouse are you feeling any better, have you spoken to your doctor or gone and seen your doctor? I remember someone else saying a long time back about having the itchies from medication......I may be wrong but I think it was Zoomin. Anyway aside from that I do know that it can mean the medication is way wrong for you, so it needs to be changed.

Let us know how you are doing.

Well today was a big day, we played with the septic pipes, and they no longer run under the driveway past the house. We have moved them and they now run beside driveway. What a smelly job, glad I wasn't the one out there digging. My yard looks like a mine field or something but at least we will not have a messy leaky pipe anymore and because the pipes do not run under the road anymore there is no chance of them being broken.

Our next project is to put a double carport with a gabbled roof out the side, or at least that is what the other half wants to do....Anything to make him happy, and so long as it causes me no trouble they can do what they please. LOL Actually I would rather it was out the other side of the house over the pool area, because in another month or so it is going to be so hot and you can not go in the pool in the middle of the day because you get burnt to a crisp. Oh well I guess good things come to those that wait, or so the saying goes. So maybe if I am a patient girl I will get an even better cover next year.

I have to go and get dinner on but will check back in soon.

Thanks Netta & Zilvy for your concern! I feel a bit better today. No, I have not called the doctor yet since I don't seem to be in immediate danger of keeling over. But I will call him Monday and ask about alternatives. The funny part is the next plan of action for this particular problem is a very expensive drug. I explained to him that my insurance will end either the end of Oct. or Dec. The expensive treatment is for 5 months, if we went straight to that, my insurance would just about cover it. I almost asked him to go straight to that treatment as the one he started me on I'm supposed to try for 2 months. LOL So we'll see what he says come Monday. Plus, I should have known better since my mom is really allergic to that particular family of drugs and we have a lot of the same reactions to things.

Pogo went back into the vet last Thurs. to see if she was all better and could have her surgery yet. The bloodwork showed she was still having problems with her liver, but the vet said the levels were much lower. So they gave us a stronger antibiotic this time and she's to go back in two more weeks. Of course she went into heat today. But she has such a pretty voice it's not as annoying as KD's is. KD seems to have stopped growing daily in her tummy for now. I'm still not convince 100% that she's pregnant, but I'm prety sure. She is acting differently and the others are acting differently towards her. Poor Charlie (our 3rd and final girl) just doesn't know what to think of the other two girls! She's been spayed for a long time and never was pregnant.

I was supposed to go to that seminar at the outplacement place this week and didn't make it since I was feeling ill. So I rescheduled for this coming week. I've also applied for unemployment too. I'm not positive, but I think I'll get the maximum amount (which is less than half of my former wages ) since I was there for a long time and my pay was high. I'm still trying to talk hubby into applying too. It was very easy! It used to be you had to go down there, fill out papers and wait all day. Now, you do it all over the phone! I still have to go down and register with the job bank, but that was always the easier part. Things sure change!

The one thing I'm still concerned about is the staus of my back. As far as I know, my doctor still hasn't released me to full time or without certain restrictions. So how is that going to affect unemployment insurance and getting a new job? Well, I do still have that extra money they sent me... Then again I haven't called them about it yet. Plus they still owe me a little bit of money for sick time and one more disability check. I did get smart and move that excess money into my savings account so I can at least make a few dollars of interest on it before they take it away.

So how is everybody doing? What's been happening besides Netta's yard still being transformed? Oh, that reminds me Netta, Mom wanted to know what do you mean by a depot?

Oh Bob...I got my doorknob and it's just lovely!! Even hubby & Mom was oohing and ahhhing. Let me know if you ever get anymore would ya? Now we're thinking of maybe getting all kinds of different ones for throughout the house. An ecletic look.

Hi Mouse a depot is a storeage yard or the like. In our case it is where our wood is stockpiled, we can have up to 600 ton sitting at any one time so it is a fairly large area and will take up about an acre of land. It needs to be a good sized area so that the trucks can turn and tip ect., at present the depot that we have had for the past 14 years is about 2.5 acres, but the one we are in the process of setting up is just over 1 acre (that was my back yard), and we also have about a half acre set up for people to come in for pick ups and that area is a bit away from where our main depot area will be.

Glad you are feeling a bit better.

Hi jt, in answer to your question, we sell the wood. That is what we do, we are in retail firewood. 600 ton is what we start our selling season off with. We also have some furniture timber as well but that is totally different.

I am in Australia and it is winter over here at present. Bob and Pharlap are also fellow Aussies.
