Hey forshoppin,
You still have some friends in your corner
I just canceled a bunch of listings myself to make my booth more manageable but I still have about 3-4 months worth of listing credits and plan to milk Yahoo for everything it's worth before I leave! This will also give me a little time to watch other sites and see which ones pick up the business Yahoo is giving away..
Hey sellers. If you are jumping ship, make sure to take your bidders with you when you go!

As a lister of approx 300+items, I too am saddened by the new listing fees.
The truth is, this seems to be the trend as portal sites are not able to rely on ad revenue as much, since so many dot coms have folded.
I would not be surprised to see fees for all of Yahoo's services in the future.
If you are a heavy lister, I would suggest opening a yahoo store, it is $100 per month for up to 50 items.
This certainly is a better deal than paying listing fees over and over for many items.
I have been a ystore merchant since Feb99 and overall am quite happy.
Just my two cents

I have never been against fees. What I'm against is the way that Yahoo has done this.
TA DA take it or leave it. If they had done their work, consulted their customers, and really looked at the situation they wouldn't have come up with listing fees in their given postition.
It takes a lot of time and effort to run on auctions. I had over 300 listings at one point.

Maybe if enough folks do they or any other auction house might not mistreat the people that allowed them to cash in their stock options!!

I've cancelled over 200 auctions in the last two days. The rest will run their course and I won't be re-listing.
I am from the UK and it seems that I would be exempt from the charges, but who wants to be part of an organisation that treats both sellers and buyers with so little respect? (1 week's notice!!)
I've had over 250 sales in the last 3 months (even with the poor hit rate at Yahoo). I don't expect that Yahoo will give a jot about the many they have let down - but at least we can vote with our feet!

I just read AW's coverage today and it's completely missed the point. Maybe they need new writers?
There are many colors in the spectrum of reaction to what Yahoo has done. You can only gloss over to a certain point. The future will play things out.
It's very disappointing coverage. More sellers than bidders come to Auctionwatch. That article read to me at least as though it was written by Yahoo? A few emotional reactions and Stock Market Fluff!
I still say:

I will phase out 170 auctions, I don't want to cancell them all. I sell coins and I will be moving them slowly to lycos. The reason for phase out is each of my auctions has at least 2 pics. I have to copy/save them from Yahoo to my HD and then from my HD to Lycos, It will be a real pain in the ###

I unfortunately can't afford to cancel all of my auctions right here and now.
My plan is to make one last free listing spree on or before january 9th.
When all of those listings are done I'll have to move on and get a job. I am a stay at home wife who sells adult novelty items Yahoo ID cybertemptress for those interested *wink*
I made just enough in profit to not have to go get a real job.........
I don't know what to do anymore once the fees kick in. I already spend $70-$120 in featured auction fees as it is.

OK. So we rushed off and cancelled all our listings and did they listen? NO!! We probably helped them by reducing the listing numbers. I think it's time for plan B ... and that is to relist every unsold item you've ever had on Yahoo for 10 days with 2 relists each for 10 days. That will clutter up the site nicely for a whole month and put them back a month in their dreams of creating a site without "junk listings". I hate to do it but it think the point will sink in much better. It will also prove to anyone still in doubt that the site will never sell much.

again, this is not that surprising.
As dot coms fail, ad revenue for portals has shrunk.
They all will start to milk their huge databases for all they are worth.
What's next, fees for yahoo mail?
I would suggest, if you are a large submitter of auctions, spend the $100 a month and open a ystore.
I did in Feb 99, results are amazing.
Certainly makes more sense than paying listing fees over and over again./
My two cents

Day before yesterday I called the Yahoo Store live-sales rep number (408/616-3801), commented on the change in auctions fee policies and asked explicitly whether the $100/month for a "store" would allow unlimited, or any number, of listing fee-free auctions listings. The rep first said "Oh yes, no changes" but became concerned when I pressed them to be certain since "Auctions" is a different division. They put me on hold a few minutes then came back and said they weren't actually certain anymore, took my name and phone number with a promise to call me back.
That was a day and a half ago and they've not called.
My guess from this is that the fees will be passed along to Store merchants and that some of those $100/month people who have been very sensibly using the Auctions as an integrated part of their merchandising package will find themselves as up the creek as those of us who've just been using extensive auctions do now. I would guess these policies might even fall into a "turf war" zone within Yahoo with the Store/Merchant function about to lose revenue as a few of its users bail due to Auctions Division decisions.
Does anybody know for certain? If the "Store" people would offer say 1000 listing fee-free Auctions a month I'd probably pay the $100 and hope so many buyers don't vanish that I couldn't continue at a level close to what I see now. However, I think the "rules of the game" there are up in the air and nobody should make any assumptions without very clear committments from Yahoo.

I read the postings on AuctionWatch last night about the Yahoo mess, and today I cancelled 133 Yahoo auctions! I had to leave the six remaining auctions that already have bids. I am Whimsy1ny on Yahoo but I guess that doesn't matter any more! Yahoo's bogus campaign for "quality items" is really offensive. I have items on ebay that get over one hundred hits in less than a week while the same item listed on Yahoo sees six hits in two weeks! Forget about bids! Everyone should close down auctions on Yahoo. Come January 10th, Yahoo will be singing a different tune! Thank you all for the inspiration! I did it and I hope others will follow!

I'm in the process of listing 300 auctions, with two relists. In 18 days that's all for me. This stuff just isn't appropriate for a fee site. I've done pretty well with Yahoo, selling items like this in the past year. As Yahoo cleans up the site, they are really destroying a low end market that sets it apart from ebay.

Good for all of you who are cancelling. A message is needed to be sent to Yahoo. Listing like made to grab a quick freebie is just what they are hoping for!!

Just about all my auctions are ending today and that's the last of YaWho for me.
After 4 days of not being able to get into my PayDirect account I pulled it off all my auctions on other sites and off my web site.
If they get into a worse financial state I don't know how long they will be holding on to our money. I don't trust them worth diddly now.

I have been a seller on Yahoo auctions for almost 2 years now. There is NO WHERE near the traffic as on e-bay. You can list an item on Yahoo and it won't sell for 2 months. List it for 7 days on e-bay and it will bring triple the money. Believe me I have done it!! So long Yahoo......

Most of us have, are, or will take action against Yahoo, by switching to other sites, posting complaints on our web pages, or as I've seen, putting up phoney items (a real sounding title, but when you click on it, it's a protest complaint).
We're just venting here to make us feel better, not to actually accomplish anything. Like Yahoo reads the e-mail you send, much less a message board.
