But I would have to wonder if you'd be willing to offer this fabulous largesse of legal status, conditioned on military service, if we weren't in a time of danger when it's clear that some of our children might have to die... unless we can find someone else to die in their place. Hey! How about those Mexicans! And for how long... Well, they're saying it might take 10 years to fight this thing... 10 years is about right, it would take them that long to learn English in the service. Yes, a win-win situation.

I'm not so sure the Mexicans would be interested in this plan. There is a big difference between not being able to speak English and not wanting to speak it. I know quite a few who speak English as well as anyone and just choose not to.

Only 1000's of illegal mexican immigrants in this country? There are lots more than that.
They suck our welfare system dry. I know this from experience from my former job. It's amazing how many hispanic people in my town have big fancy brand new trucks, SUV's or cars and their kids were and are on free lunch and of course I would see them using food stamps in the grocery stores!
It was also amazing to me how many hispanics here pretended they couldn't speak english. When the interpeters weren't available and they needed to know something now, all of a sudden they could speak english.
Of course we did have a few people that paid for their kids lunches, but they were never the ones that drove the new vehicles. And those were the people I respected and admired. I just wish they were the majority.
Have them serve in the military. I doubt it, the only American flags I see here are never flown by hispanics.

It would seem that it is suddenly very fashionable to insult the non-American born...we can barely keep peace among ourselves, and we want to wage war against the world???
That emigrants should learn English only seems to make sense, since that would open so much more opportunity for them...But to jump from learning English to "the welfare" situation is most unfair!
